I am at the movies with my daughters, when I get a call. A 10 year old girl is being airlifted to the hospital I work at. She fell of her bike when trying to ride the curb in front of her house. She hit her head hard on a rock. She was not wearing a helmet. By the time the stellar emergency response team and my amazing hospital staff got her to the hospital into the operating room there was nothing I could do.
I see events like this occouring way too often.
Please children are the future.
They might say they hate you because they look uncool wearing a helmet; but trust me the pain of them saying that they hate you, is nothing compared to you never hearing them say anything again.
Please make your children wear their helmets.

Children may be our future, but we don't need all of them. Dark humor

I had a bad fall from a horse at 16. Even with a helmet on I had a skull fracture. Anytime my kid rides her bike, scooter, etc.. Helmet.
Roqinn
The child cases are the hardest to handle. It's why I got out of the ER.
pistachiomoustache
I used to not wear a helmet. I also did stupid stuff on bikes. I've learned my lessons. My kids don't go without helmets.
ijustwantpizzaanddessert
Anyone ride as a kid without a helmet cuz they actually used it to get from A to B without crazy shit in between? Plus rode on the sidewalk
MyOtherImgurUserameIsMuchMoreImpressive
Sorry about this @OP. We need to do more to instill bike safety in kids, and wear them correctly! The message is clearly not getting through
singstoinstrumentals
My mom worked with TBI students and the stories she told about kids who would type "I wish I had died" convinced me to always wear one.

When I was hit by a car my parents kept my damaged bike helmet for years as a reminder. That damage was terrifying to look at as a kid.
thepunchline710
I split a helmet into 3 parts I hit a tree so hard on an atv a few years back. Didnt have a single scratch somehow.
butthurtnevergetsbetter
I've seen parents go through losing children. I don't think there is anything worse.
Belgiddybleh
Hard rule in my house. My stubborn daughter hated it so much she never rode a bike again.... But she's alive and in college now.
tooomanysteves
I always wore a helmet as a child. Never hated it and never understood why other kids did.
bsoxmk2
Wearing a helmet was the strictest rule my mom had. Get caught without a helmet you lost your bike for a day, then a week, and so on.
bsoxmk2
My brother has broken two helmets while wearing them. They probably saved his life.
AsSeenByMacaroni
I got hit by a motorcycle while riding my bike once. The helmet cracked clean down the midle. Id be dead if i hadnt worn it
Parameowdic
Can back this up. Kid brains are harder to see :(
twoknucklesdeep
Please wear them! I got major brain damage, lost my sense of smell (from severed nerves), and my left ear rings 24 hours a day! WEAR HELMETS
5xAcademyAwardWinnerKirkLazarus
These and seatbelts. Sometimes the simplest things can save your life.
SavyRealms1013
My mother broke her leg in a motorcycle accident when I was 15. If it wasn't for the helmet she wore that day, I'd be motherless
SavyRealms1013
She had rolled and flipped several times, her leg broke because the bike landed on it. She was passenger and had gone flying off.
millicentfrastley
I can still hear the sound my sister's helmet made when she was knocked over by a car on the way to high school. Saved her life.
Aquatomahawk
We still have my brothers and my dirt bike helmets. Both of them have a huge scrapes along them that saved our lives

A swing and a miss.
millicentfrastley
My parents were way early adopters. Nobody else wore helmets in those days (early 80s).
millicentfrastley
We hated the helmets with a passion, at least until that day.
LemonyVengeance
my brother died from a head injury while skating 18 years ago. Wear your brain buckets, people.
Eddwyn
Yes and learn your kids how to fall. Send them Judo practise or something similar, learn them how to shift their body to reduce damage.
CamelSpotter
I took a hard knock to the head as a kid. Got some stitches and a bald spot on the back of my dome. It also killed my sense of smell.
CamelSpotter
I can barely smell anything that isn't particularly strong. So, basically, I can only smell chemicals and heavily seasoned foods.
CamelSpotter
Flowers? Nothing. Did the milk go bad? I have no idea. Is there smoke? Idunno, which means I gotta be extra goddam alert in emergencies.
allyouneedisnandornor
Not to mention using the strap! Most kids I see with helmets have a really loose strap. Helmets don't do much unless they stay on the head.
docmcdocface
Good point, Thank you
Immagummybear
Seriously. Dr's can put all kinds of body parts back together, but they can't put brains back in a skull.
docmcdocface
This is very true!!!
TooSadToCare
My neighbor was 23, just got a house, and to be married July 4th werkend. An atv at his bachelor party killed him. No helmets.
docmcdocface
I'm sorry this happened.
TooSadToCare
He just moved in. It's messed up. His best man is being hit with vehicular homicide since it was drinking and driving.

I hated wearing a helmet as a child but always knew I had too. A mom down the street from us lost her son cause he fell off his bike (1
Aquatomahawk
Hit his head really hard. Didn't tell his mom he fell but complained about a headache so she told him to take a nap. I can still hear her (2
Aquatomahawk
We were outside playing when she came out of the house holding him and screaming for help. I don't think thats something I'll ever forget(3
choloeseguay
Fuck that

Been meaning to buy a bike, but didn't want a helmet. I will get a helmet.
docmcdocface
That was the goal of this post, to get at least 1 person to start wearing a helmet. Thank you!!!
Prosecutrixxx
Got a helmet. Cheap helmet, but a helmet.
wenchyfooziemoo
I always make my son wear his helmet- his dad's step daughter never gets made to wear hers and now I'm a mean mum.... don't even care.
docmcdocface
Thank you, they will understand and love ytou for it when the y are older. I promise.
xFryla
Idk but we Dutch people don't seem to wear helmets as much as the rest of the world and we are mostly fine.
Stanistani
Mostly.
Belgiddybleh
It's not for the thousands of times people ride and are ok. It's for that one unforeseen event.
xFryla
The moment a truck drives over your head cause you were texting and cycling that helmet isn't gonna help you.
ltsDizzyD
My neighbors daughter was 14. She snuck out one night to go see her friend and was hit by a car. She was riding her bike without a helmet.
docmcdocface
Was she ok????
ltsDizzyD
Unfortunately not.
docmcdocface
Oh I'm so sorry.
