I just finished Kora for the first time (I was waiting for the last season to be free to stream) it's also really good.
I showed my wife at 27, after she wanted to say no because 'the movie wasn't very good'. Then she forced me to watch Korra with her as well.

It's been solid so far for sure. Doesn't really seem like a "kid's" show - more like Pixar in how they can bring in adult themes, too

If you mean whether or not to not watch avatar until this thing is done. Just watch it. Between ATLA and Korra may take a while. Worth it.

32 here. Just started Korra.
DarkBusterBaron
Honestly just watch season 1 it’s the only good season.
ketro2099
didnt the origional writers all leave due to the crap the studio was pulling?
DatDarthCaedus
Netflix is making a live action show they were involved in and left. This is a DIFFERENT thing that will make animated stuff.
stja
And in case you had hopes for Netflix Avatar regardless:
finnsto
MishiMoshiSquishyToesies
Ew, wtf? This sounds worse than Shyamalan's version.
I've seen that circulate a few times already, but I haven't actually seen or been able to find a source for it? It's all "allegedly" and 1/
"supposedly", so I wouldn't trust it until I can see/find confirmation for it. Not that I'd put it past Netflix, mind you, but...
There's no avatar left in here bar the names. Why not just make a different show if it was gonna be this?
ya that sounds utterly atrocious
Illithidbane
Will we see the next element in the cycle? Time for an Earth Kingdom Avatar? Probably another timeskip? Avatar meets Internet?
Speedmetal05
Wait. I thought Korra was after Aang?
Yes. Therefore earth. The cycle is air>water>earth>fire
dolphins24
Kyoshi murdering people
MistLynx
I'd love to see the new avatar be born a street kid and avoid the lotus so we see the world from a ground up view the whole way.
thebabywhale1
The next one is a sand bender named gengi I believe so earth.
xyxyxyxy31
BlueskydragonFX
Hmm I wonder too. A ww2 styled dilemma, 50's nuclear age, or something like that. Go fallout bender.
Early terraforming era, taking place on Mars and seeing how the Avatar can deal with a world without the spirits/ecosystem.
UprootedGrunt
My group maintains that Korra was planned as a two-generation skip and she was supposed to be an Earthbender but got pushed into Water 1/
That even works for her stubborn personality.
when they decided to scale back the timejump. Makes a lot more sense; her troubles with Air, the technology jumps, 2/
a giant fricking city that wasn't there before. But it would have been harder to re-use familiar characters, so...
Guestmod
Nah, the world is destroyed after an avatar discovers the uranium element and the cycle starts over
Reminds me of an old OOTS comic where some elementalist summons an Osmium Elemental, to the outrage of the traditional wizard.
themintypigeon
Here’s all the stories I would love to see: Avatar in the modern world. An older avatar (so we get to see what a long time master is like) 1
PSFE43X
FC Lee wrote two books in collaboration w creators about kyoshi's origin story. :)
Wookieoo7
Personally I want to see a series about Toph and Sokka just doing their jobs and being bros, not world saving events. Just stopping a gang
Literally anything because I love this show
Bestiarium
Have you read the Kyoshi novels?
yesallthegoodnamesweretaken
They're so good ! I hope there will be more novels like these in the future
DarralHunter
I feel like tenzin was playing that “old ang” part
Tenzin wasn't anything like Ang though. In fact, there was a whole subplot abt how NOT like ang he was.
Yeah but I want an older, fully realized avatar putting years of training to the test. Though that would be hard to make into a good story
OatmealChocolateChipCookies
Sounds like a Superman type of story. All the power and has to hold back.
NaughtButOne
They specify "The Last Airbender", so likely a continuation of the Gaang. There's a ton of supplementary material.
Hagfascist
They just say it's in the same universe as TLA
So far, within the context of Avatar, content is pretty explicitly split up between TLA and LoK. Otherwise it's just the "Avatar universe".
inuzarel
Maybe we'll finally find out who boned Toph and how she ended up a swamp witch
elbowdeepinawhateverthatis
So THAT’s The Boulder’s real name!
Alright, but I still want to know how she went from running a Metal bending dojo to living in a swamp
kingbudo101
nah go back in time
ElbowDeepinaTinyOctopus
Avatar Kyoshi for the win.
TerryCrews
ScrapCode
.... did... did he just tied a hand grenade to his vest by the PIN!
Yup. You have to squeeze the handle to release the pin. Still, in the Corps we used pouches. Being made by the lowest bidder and all.
We already had that story, though. But yes, Kyoshi content would be awesome, I just hope it won't be the same story as the Kyoshi novels
since an animated version would basically retcon those awesome books.
We did have a two-episode flashback to the first Avatar. Could do maybe the first inherited Avatar after Wan.
suomynonA
Out of both shows, that 2 episode flashback was my most favorite part
dabum
I wish they gave Wan more than 2 episodes. Korra was great but I want Wan's story inmore detail. Regardless I'm gonna watch what they make.
SerialChickenLover
I know they retconned the origin of the Avatar in LOK, but I liked that story a lot.
Literally any of the 100s of avatars that existed
Avatar Kiyoshi would be good. We had pacifist Aang, inexperienced Korra, show us kickass Kiyoshi as our first Earth Avatar main character.
TurtleExMachina
Odds are it won’t be Kyoshi, Kuruk or Yangchen, since all three have been explored in the comics (with the last 2 in a lesser extent)
kedtheduck
Kyoshi wasn't kickass from the start though, she struggled
I don't know, Kyoshi's story has been told in great detail in the Kyoshi novels. Which I absolutely love, by the way.
Aeolys
Then the next one would have to be the Avatar in Space! Your firebending does nothing in a vacuum!
GrifCreeper
Not necessarily space, but a cosmic threat would be an interesting idea, considering they already did spritual
PatrickDiomedes
I wonder, would other planets' moons empower waterbenders, or is it just their homeworld's moon?
Warzone12
Multiple moons means extremely powerful waterbenders? Maybe the planet is the moon of a gas giant and the waterbenders are uber powerful?
Assuming the mass of the nearby planetary body is what matters...
Sozin’s comet redux but this time they just nuke the comet
Or, assuming its more symbolic than scientific, a water giant instead of a gas giant would be a cool waterbender catalyst.
chuddddd
LoK Spoiler: But didn't Korra end the Avatar cycle at the end of LoK? Or did I miss something? Isn't there no more avatars after her
Sansdurlannite
iirc she didn't end the cycle, just ended all possible connection with past avatars.
latinomartino
Well, I would say she did a hard reboot. It ended for sure. But she also restarted it too.
morelikeconsham
She did end the avatar cycle, but she started a new one by rejoining with raava
If the avatar cycle was truly broken, either she would be dead or she would not have power over all 4 elements.
suiseiseki
As much as I enjoyed LoK the writing was pretty wishwashy, so any potential advancement could easily be retconned by new lore
CounselorWaffles
Nickelodeon kinda screwed them that's why. They should be free to do what they want now, I hope to see Korra and Asami again.
I heard that's why they basically shoved all of the plot twists into the last 90 seconds of the 4th season
Their production schedule was often unknown so the pacd was uneven, and yeah that was the best they could do to show Asami + Korra together
littleicetank
I bet we will see the story about finding zukos mom
Imissmycats
I'm sorry to inform you: It will be a high school AU coming of age story set in, probably, our world.
This based on the updated character descriptions for the series. Aang has adoptive parents and goes to school.
Again? Honestly I'd rather see a new story, but I'd love any new content so I'd still love an animated version of the Ursa story
HedonistBeard
Avatar meets internet: Finding zukos mom's onlyfans.
broodwarjc
The comics already showed this. I was not a fan of the story, but I know others were.
mecalise
Can still be animated tho
TheConnArtist
Comics? There are comics? What are they so I may enjoy.
BallsDeepinaDragonscloaca
Comics are bound stories told via pictures and character dialogue with occasional narration.
Oh wow book with pictures! What will they think of next!
There are several trilogies and I love them! The first is 'The promise': about post-war tension between the Earth and Fire nations. Then:

thatauzzieguy
I just watched it at 45! Loved the style.
anabanona531
You really don't need to be a kid to enjoy it
DopeChicken
Same ... About five years ago. Watched it again with my kids like a year ago. Also, currently going through our third run of Adventure Time
SnaccAttacc
People widely agree that that's the best age to enjoy the mix of adult themes and young humour. Just Google Avatar rule 34 to read more
Fckipstypograph
You lucky son of a mother and a father !
JosephTheCuck101

SW00PUP0NTHEM
GF and I are your age and watched last summer during the pandemic - started out as a lunchtime time filler, ended as a beloved classic
legalisegaymarijuana
Zuko's story arc, "I was never angry, I was worried you had lost your way." I cri evri tym
Jadedandannoyed
Started at 33. Excellent show. Not even an animation fan. ATLA has heart.

I was 43 when I saw it for the first time. I'm 44 now.
Freak0zoid
Awesome. I’m happy you get to experience all its glory for the first time.
WeirdStealth
I don't think the show was created just for kids, I've watched it off and on over the years start to finish, and it's great.
SnossedAndLost
Started watching as a kid and my 40 some y.o. dad immediately got hooked while walking by the TV and quickly deemed it the best cartoon ever
MiguelitoG1979
Watched it at 41 and loved it
heyoo42
I watched for the first time last winter. Amazing show, I just loved it, glad it's back!
PPlank
I watched it at 60 last year. I win.
iJudgePeopleForALiving
Pushing 40, when I have the time ill watch it again.
hardytardigrade
I watched it for the first time this year. It's pretty great. I like the writing, including subtle jokes and references to other stuff.
Empathau225
34 is the best age to watch avatar. Hell there’s even a following for it. Google Avatar Rules34.
Salpinus
Saw it in early 30s too, excellent show!
akom
I just watched it last year at 37. Never too late.
KushKnight
It’s one of those things that comes to you when you need it the most.. I watched it at 33 and I needed it.. ENJOY
carlosramolete14
Watched the fist it came out with the kids, I’m 48, my youngest is 18, and we still watch them. Team Sokka all the way!!!
carlosramolete14
Sorry, I meant the **first time**
Boredashell
Welcome and enjoy my friend. Legit my favorite cartoon of all time. Same age btw
IIikethecutofyourjib
LUCKY I wish I could watch it for the first time again...brb gonna go hit my head with a rock.
HighSorcerer
I think I saw it for the first time in my 30s also. It's very good, you'll watch it again later I'm sure.
DerelictTwitterCrash
Imgur's Legend of Korra Defense Force convinced me to watch the show. I was 38 and enjoyed every second of it.
aleardie
Watched it last year for the first time! I’m 31. It will make you feel all of the feels! Definitely gonna rewatch soon
tavinjer
Same age and just watched it a few months ago. It was amazing!
EatsBees
same. god. tears. but so good
zzjones92360
Great time to start watching it
Jingleberryjambajuice
I watched it at 39, it's great
jenmalove
You’re in for a treat, when you’re done, get the comics that start right where the show ends, you won’t regret it
Anju42
I just finished Kora for the first time (I was waiting for the last season to be free to stream) it's also really good.
Kaleopolitus
I showed my wife at 27, after she wanted to say no because 'the movie wasn't very good'. Then she forced me to watch Korra with her as well.
secretdpp
First time was 22, Finished another rewatch with thr GF as she hadn't seen it. It holds well
sittingonthetube4
I know the feeling. Lol. It's just a great balance of taking itself seriously and being silly.
imalurk33r
Worth it
Keifer6644
Let me work it
FlissFloss86Gaming
It's been solid so far for sure. Doesn't really seem like a "kid's" show - more like Pixar in how they can bring in adult themes, too
FromJupiter
Itt has very good story telling would recommend at any age
mdymv4gxsx365
I wonder if I will lose some of the magic if I hold out until this new thing is completed..
mrose50
If you mean whether or not to not watch avatar until this thing is done. Just watch it. Between ATLA and Korra may take a while. Worth it.
mdymv4gxsx365
Ok thanks, that’s exactly what I mean.
literallymike
Animation is a medium. Not just for kids. ATLAB happens to be for everyone, children included.
fourmonkeytrio
I was 35
mayodash
I'm 30, 12 year old nephew sat me down to watch it with him last year. Worth it
BenScarb
44 here and loving it the first time through, took a while as I saw the live action film first….
Noodlesocks
Watched it last year, same age, 34. Really loved Korra and Avatar was good too.
GeordieLaforge
I'm so jealous you get to watch it for the first time!
PostingWhileWorking
I watched it growing up in my teens, and showed it to my daughter! She has a poster, Momo and Apa toys!
weaselodoom
Oh how i truly envy you, to see the show for the first time...
livurz
DatDarthCaedus
I've seen that circulate a few times already, but I haven't actually seen or been able to find a source for it? It's all "allegedly" and 1/
DatDarthCaedus
"supposedly", so I wouldn't trust it until I can see/find confirmation for it. Not that I'd put it past Netflix, mind you, but...
Yoggington
There's no avatar left in here bar the names. Why not just make a different show if it was gonna be this?
ketro2099
ya that sounds utterly atrocious
Illithidbane
Will we see the next element in the cycle? Time for an Earth Kingdom Avatar? Probably another timeskip? Avatar meets Internet?
Speedmetal05
Wait. I thought Korra was after Aang?
Munnin41
Yes. Therefore earth. The cycle is air>water>earth>fire
dolphins24
Kyoshi murdering people
MistLynx
I'd love to see the new avatar be born a street kid and avoid the lotus so we see the world from a ground up view the whole way.
thebabywhale1
The next one is a sand bender named gengi I believe so earth.
xyxyxyxy31
BlueskydragonFX
Hmm I wonder too. A ww2 styled dilemma, 50's nuclear age, or something like that. Go fallout bender.
Illithidbane
Early terraforming era, taking place on Mars and seeing how the Avatar can deal with a world without the spirits/ecosystem.
UprootedGrunt
My group maintains that Korra was planned as a two-generation skip and she was supposed to be an Earthbender but got pushed into Water 1/
Illithidbane
That even works for her stubborn personality.
UprootedGrunt
when they decided to scale back the timejump. Makes a lot more sense; her troubles with Air, the technology jumps, 2/
UprootedGrunt
a giant fricking city that wasn't there before. But it would have been harder to re-use familiar characters, so...
Guestmod
Nah, the world is destroyed after an avatar discovers the uranium element and the cycle starts over
Illithidbane
Reminds me of an old OOTS comic where some elementalist summons an Osmium Elemental, to the outrage of the traditional wizard.
themintypigeon
Here’s all the stories I would love to see: Avatar in the modern world. An older avatar (so we get to see what a long time master is like) 1
PSFE43X
FC Lee wrote two books in collaboration w creators about kyoshi's origin story. :)
Wookieoo7
Personally I want to see a series about Toph and Sokka just doing their jobs and being bros, not world saving events. Just stopping a gang
themintypigeon
Literally anything because I love this show
Bestiarium
Have you read the Kyoshi novels?
yesallthegoodnamesweretaken
They're so good ! I hope there will be more novels like these in the future
DarralHunter
I feel like tenzin was playing that “old ang” part
PSFE43X
Tenzin wasn't anything like Ang though. In fact, there was a whole subplot abt how NOT like ang he was.
themintypigeon
Yeah but I want an older, fully realized avatar putting years of training to the test. Though that would be hard to make into a good story
OatmealChocolateChipCookies
Sounds like a Superman type of story. All the power and has to hold back.
NaughtButOne
They specify "The Last Airbender", so likely a continuation of the Gaang. There's a ton of supplementary material.
Hagfascist
They just say it's in the same universe as TLA
NaughtButOne
So far, within the context of Avatar, content is pretty explicitly split up between TLA and LoK. Otherwise it's just the "Avatar universe".
inuzarel
Maybe we'll finally find out who boned Toph and how she ended up a swamp witch
Illithidbane
elbowdeepinawhateverthatis
So THAT’s The Boulder’s real name!
inuzarel
Alright, but I still want to know how she went from running a Metal bending dojo to living in a swamp
kingbudo101
nah go back in time
ElbowDeepinaTinyOctopus
Avatar Kyoshi for the win.
TerryCrews
ScrapCode
.... did... did he just tied a hand grenade to his vest by the PIN!
TerryCrews
Yup. You have to squeeze the handle to release the pin. Still, in the Corps we used pouches. Being made by the lowest bidder and all.
Bestiarium
We already had that story, though. But yes, Kyoshi content would be awesome, I just hope it won't be the same story as the Kyoshi novels
Bestiarium
since an animated version would basically retcon those awesome books.
Illithidbane
We did have a two-episode flashback to the first Avatar. Could do maybe the first inherited Avatar after Wan.
suomynonA
Out of both shows, that 2 episode flashback was my most favorite part
dabum
I wish they gave Wan more than 2 episodes. Korra was great but I want Wan's story inmore detail. Regardless I'm gonna watch what they make.
SerialChickenLover
I know they retconned the origin of the Avatar in LOK, but I liked that story a lot.
kingbudo101
Literally any of the 100s of avatars that existed
Illithidbane
Avatar Kiyoshi would be good. We had pacifist Aang, inexperienced Korra, show us kickass Kiyoshi as our first Earth Avatar main character.
TurtleExMachina
Odds are it won’t be Kyoshi, Kuruk or Yangchen, since all three have been explored in the comics (with the last 2 in a lesser extent)
kedtheduck
Kyoshi wasn't kickass from the start though, she struggled
Bestiarium
Warzone12
Assuming the mass of the nearby planetary body is what matters...
themintypigeon
Sozin’s comet redux but this time they just nuke the comet
Warzone12
Or, assuming its more symbolic than scientific, a water giant instead of a gas giant would be a cool waterbender catalyst.
chuddddd
LoK Spoiler: But didn't Korra end the Avatar cycle at the end of LoK? Or did I miss something? Isn't there no more avatars after her
Sansdurlannite
iirc she didn't end the cycle, just ended all possible connection with past avatars.
latinomartino
Well, I would say she did a hard reboot. It ended for sure. But she also restarted it too.
morelikeconsham
She did end the avatar cycle, but she started a new one by rejoining with raava
morelikeconsham
If the avatar cycle was truly broken, either she would be dead or she would not have power over all 4 elements.
suiseiseki
As much as I enjoyed LoK the writing was pretty wishwashy, so any potential advancement could easily be retconned by new lore
CounselorWaffles
Nickelodeon kinda screwed them that's why. They should be free to do what they want now, I hope to see Korra and Asami again.
suiseiseki
I heard that's why they basically shoved all of the plot twists into the last 90 seconds of the 4th season
CounselorWaffles
Their production schedule was often unknown so the pacd was uneven, and yeah that was the best they could do to show Asami + Korra together
littleicetank
I bet we will see the story about finding zukos mom
Imissmycats
I'm sorry to inform you: It will be a high school AU coming of age story set in, probably, our world.
Imissmycats
This based on the updated character descriptions for the series. Aang has adoptive parents and goes to school.
Bestiarium
TheConnArtist
Oh wow book with pictures! What will they think of next!
Bestiarium
There are several trilogies and I love them! The first is 'The promise': about post-war tension between the Earth and Fire nations. Then:

'the Search', about Zuko and the gang's search for Zuko's mother. I love how this one goes in depth about Azula's insanity and paranoia.
