They're making it because you're buying it

Get a OnePlus 5.

as a musician, the Iphone went from a must have, to a 'why the fuck would i want this now' due to this...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Too bad most consumers are too addicted to their shit. "I can't live without a new phone, guess I'll buy the one I hate the least"

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Bought a budget Android for $200, rooted it and upgraded to Nougat 7.1........Never been happier...

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Somebody needs to make a Bluetooth headphone jack.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't understand the desire to replace an old phone that isn't defective in some way.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Shoulda been a slowpoke meme. This is a year old non-issue

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I love my iPhone 7 plus. But then I don't use headphones, so....

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Then show me a smartphone that takes 4 AA batteries in it so I can support them by buying that.

8 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 9

You'd probably be replacing those 4 AAS multiple times a day. That's awful for the environment.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hence why i bought an LG G6...headphone jack, usb-c port, and charges full in less than 1.5hr.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Phone still has a headphone jack and I haven't used wired earbuds in 2 years

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They can drop headphone jacks when usb-c headphones are as cheap as regular headphones and are just as common in stores.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thank you Captain Hindsight.

supply/demand/ignorance

8 years ago | Likes 100 Dislikes 7

To their defense I haven't used corded headphones with my phone for 2 years and most people where I work don't either.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

More like Supply/Demand/Forced Acceptance/Idle Acceptance

8 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 3

My bluetooth earphones are my beloved! Phone in handbag and no stupid fucking tangles. And i use an Android.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

There are more than 1 customer.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I always use Samsung, it's more practical for Life than an Iphone.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

There is a disconnect in that logic, because many people buy out of brand loyalty and other reasons. Also, companies are giving less choice.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

What? Why do you care? Just buy an adapter and quit complaining.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

And where, pray tell, does the adapter go on the phone?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

The adapter goes in the Lightning port. And you don't even have to buy one: the phone comes with a free adapter in the box.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

I'm sorry OP. You're completely right. I contributed to this! And I have much regret and self loathing.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

Yes, because we choose to buy phones simply because of one attribute. https://m.popkey.co/1c786e/kvKXd.gif

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 15

when all the flagship phones are pretty much the same except for a few attributes, yes I do.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Well you can

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

"Branding" - That's pretty much one attribute isn't it? We could go a bit further and say "UX" but that's about it.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

We're not buying them. Gullible teenagers who think new means "best" are.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I had an iPhone 5 then 6s. This will be my last iPhone most likely. They are heading down a path I cannot follow them on.

8 years ago | Likes 98 Dislikes 12

They did that 10 years ago for me. Enjoy having a better phone in the future.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Despite not liking Apple I'll keep following them since I have an iPad and an iPod too. Don't want to restart with apps.

8 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 8

They're not making iPods either now,

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Yes they are. They're only making the iPod touch now. That's the only kind of iPod I've ever owned personally.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You're breaking my heart anakin

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I'm with you! Same phone, still think it's too big though. 5s was the best phone ever.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Look into the sony xperia XZ Compact. Flagship phone in smaller form factor.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No ios.. lame

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Agreed, I have the 6s also and I doubt I'll get another iPhone. Especially since the new one doesn't have a home button now

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 6

All the phones...atleast the higher end models...are going that route

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I would recommend checking out the Motorala line. I have a Z force Droid. Doesn't have a headphone jack but comes with FREE adapter.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I'm all fairness, the iPhone 7 and newer all come with a free headphone adapter too, for any 3.5mm standard headphones. It's about 1.5" long

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I did the whole itouch stuff and was never a fan of the simplistic design of the iPhone. The camera quality is horrible for what you pay for

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Chose this over the Samsung because the camera quality is way better.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This is the way the market is moving. It is rumored that the Pixel 2 will not have a headphones jack. Bluetooth headphones are cheap now.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yeah? They also can't survive single transatlantic flight.. fucking useless

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How many transatlantic flights do you go on? Maybe take an adapter

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What i do is just take regular god damned headphones... this part of the future where everything takes batteries is backasswards and stupid

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Oh I know lol I frequently use the phrase dongle hellscape

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Was my conclusion with laptops a few years ago. When this one goes, nothing in their lineup works for me anymore.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That last sentence suddenly got read in Padme's voice

8 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 1

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The 3.5mm audio jack is basically a 19th Century bit of kit: it's a mini version of the 0.25 inch jack (6.35mm), which dates from 1878. 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Replacing it with something newer is long overdue. Unfortunately nobody (not even the IEEE) wanted to deal with replacing it. 2/2

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No replacement is due at all. There is no possibility for improvement; it exceeds human perception by a significant margin alraedy.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Yes, but it's become a design limitation. You could have a MP3 player that's barely thicker than a credit card if there was a suitable jack.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I never understood the love of these devices being more and more thin. It seems too flimsy, would rather have something more solid

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just look at the obsession with ever slimmer phones. A credit card-sized MP3 player would be nice, though. Lots of music in your wallet.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Man, when are they going to replace the wheel? It's like, thousands of years old!...Some form factors are proof against obsolescence

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You're comparing this to the wheel? Do I really need to tell you how ridiculous that sounds?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

and MP3 players aren't really a thing any more, phones are and have too much tech for that. They also aren't replacing it, they're 1/

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

removing the jack entirely. You can put a jack into the charge port, but that, y'know, precludes charging, the point of it. 2/2

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

People still buy MP3 players. And I was only using them to make the point. The same jack is also a design limitation for smartphones.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

All I want is for them to have as good a camera as Samsung, HTC, LG, WINDOWS etc. but no they get rid of shit like the home button and hfj

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Hfj is for head phone jack, but I just realized I'm dumb and should have put HPJ...... eh whatever you get what I meant.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

it's all good. you just spelled it... fonetically

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

This is somewhat true, but reality isn't that simple. Trusts and monopolies defy the free market.

8 years ago | Likes 179 Dislikes 26

Fair, but if enough free market consumers simply decided not to buy into hype and propaganda, the phones would revert back to having the jacks

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Point of sale guys push them, management pushes them, they manipulate on-hand stock to only have the shiny new one. Guessing at least (1)

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

(2) 50% of cell phone owners never use headphones anyway. Their kids might complain but guess who pays the bill.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

"Somewhat true" sort of sells the title short does it not? The iPhone isn't exactly a risky gamble on innovation, not these days anyway.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Doesn't change the fact that if as little of 15% of committed customers had abandoned backless phones, they would not be in production

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

Didnt know Apple had a monopoly on smartphones. Always thought they have like a 30% market share.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 12

They don't have an actual monopoly, but probably a kind of brand monopoly, people consider them to be the best, regardless of numbers

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The number I found was 43%, but you don't need a monopoly to influence the market.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

Yeah influencing sounds more reasonable than defying.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 5

It's the same thing. Anything that influences the market defies the free market. Influence obviates freedom.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 4

PLease define the free market without influence from every participent.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

tell me more about how there is no alternatives on the market to phones without headphone jacks.

8 years ago | Likes 76 Dislikes 21

I never made that claim. A trust is a business with enough market power to force such a change. It doesn't mean there's no alternative.

8 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 7

Straw man fallacy.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

But the phone with the apple on it is better because it costs 5x as much.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Samsung galaxy s8 = about 600$ Apple iPhone 7 = about 600$ Your point?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 6

S8 - 2x8 core cpu. 4gb ram. 571ppi. iPhone7 - 1x4 core cpu. 2gb ram. 326ppi. S8 is more than 2x the phone (spec wise) for the same price.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Many Apple consumers are almost locked in because lack of interoperability between their platform and others. Highly anticompetitive.

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Especially when all the apps, music, movies, ect, you have are on the apple platform.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Almost everyone saw that problem coming from miles away, though.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's iPhone's fault. They can do whatever they want, sell like hotcakes, & everyone else says "wait, we can do that? and get away with it?"

8 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 2

Like they don't even put the miraculous back button on their phones, what the heck >:(

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

This.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A simple swipe gesture works in 99% of apps as well as a virtual one in the menu bar and one in the status bar which goes to prev app.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 7

but the back button isn't always there on the app, leaving the app isn't normally needed and the back button isn't always in the same place

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Swipe gesture. You don't need a button to go back. Swipe from left edge of screen towards the right and it goes back to previous page.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

If that works with things like games, then that'd really suck I: and if it doesn't, then the previous point still applies.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

things i care about a smartphone: 1080 display, 10h batt. lifetime, sd-slot, cpu and ram fast enough to hold for some years. any suggestions

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

You should also care about an IR blaster. Life is so much easier if your phone is also a universal remote.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

You want a 1080P display and a 10 hour battery life? Good luck with that. Unless you mean standby, but then that's not hard to achieve.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also, I really like my LGv20.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

ZTE Axon 7

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

10 hours of doing what? I picked up an Xperia Z3 a year ago, and have been really happy with it. Battery lasts a work shift of Youtube, 8h+.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Check out the ASUS Zenfone 3 Zoom. 5000mah battery, great screen, sd slot up to 2tb, great camera, and it's only $300.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Isn't Asus infamous for putting out buggy phones that don't last more than a few months out of the box?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

All that for me and a REMOVABLE BATTERY... Looking at you Samsung.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Motorola makes some pretty good phones.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i honeslty would not care if the phones were twice or even three times as thick as the current styles are. i want tech in there

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Moto Z.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I second this. Just a great piece of hardware.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sony Xperia xz premium, it has a 4k screen, quad core processor, 4gb ram, up to 256gb expandable memory, super slomo camera ,3230mAh battery

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The Samsung Note 8. I've gotten a chance to play with it, and if you're willing to drop almost $1000 it'll meet all those requirements.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

huawei honor 9, lasts a full day with heavy usage, day- day and half with moderate usage, also and it's around £400 so it's pretty cheap.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Can confirm Huawei has mad battery life.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Im on the P10 Lite and I love it. Except it's slippery as fuck. It falls off every surface you lay it on.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have a Galaxy S6. I won't upgrade until a smartphone comes out with a 4K screen (mine is 1440P). Galaxy S6 is good enough for a long time.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sony Xperia xz premium has a 4k screen, also remote play for the ps4

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Even then, I'd only want a 4K screen on a smartphone for the sake of being able to say it has more pixels than I could possibly see for sure

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How important is 1080p to you? Me and some friends are big fans of the Sony Xperia compact line. One of my biggest concerns was batterylife~

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

because I was a bus driver at the time and had long/variable days. Even on 15+ hour days of nonstop spotifys treaming it stayed alive. It's~

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not the most sexy phone to some, but I like its subdued look, smaller formfactor, and it's a very reliable thing. Great cam too, if ya care.
