Celsius just isn't great for climate/people type stuff. It's not supposed to be.

If you're cold, they're cold. Let them in

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If ait is 87 degrees you have bigger problems

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I guess if your dogs paws get burned you could say it wasn’t my fault it was the ass fault.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do you have one for concrete?

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Still, moron people will let their dogs paws burn then wonder why

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

See? I keep telling my dumbass penguin that 70 degrees is fine but it whinges soooo much!

3 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 1

Did you try sitting on it's egg because the dude penguins are supposed to do that

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Well you can kiss my asphalt.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I always see people with their dogs on the blacktop paths and wonder what they are thinking. Paved Paths are for humans and bicycles

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If only you used an actual measuring system so 95% of the world population can read this.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

It's obviously a physical sign that someone took a picture of; not an infographic.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

love a pet but fuck a fahrenheit

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

When they repaved the road in front of my house, I could feel the heat all the way from my porch, a good 30 feet from the road. Shit's hot.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yet whenever I try to be cognizant of that and walk on the grass, my dog INSISTS on sticking to the pavement.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What if I have a sand cat or fennec as a pet?

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Sand is more reflective than asphalt would probably get less hot in those temps, still use caution while walking your sand cat in the city.

3 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

But if you're walking around a bad part of town at night don't put shoes on them. You might need the murder mitts and it's cooler temps

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Nothing funnier, as a kid, than to go and sit human foodprints in soft asfalt.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This sign won't stop me because I can't read american temperatures! ... and also don't have any pets

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is it the same if humidity is high?

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Would probably have a lesser ratio but still

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Always walk mine before 9 in the morning if possible.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If in doubt, place your hand on the pavement- if it's too hot to comfortably touch, it's too hot for dog paws

3 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 1

Quick reminder, pavement is not the same as asphalt. The former is concrete, and is generally grey- the latter is tar, and generally black.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Most of the time, asphalt will be much, much hotter than pavement.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thanks for this.

Parents moved to TX and have wax for the dogs paws. They also only walk him at dawn and dusk amd treat grass for bugs and stuff.

Living in az: oh cool standing outside will destroy my skin in minutes

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

We had to get very creative when transporting my dog during the Phoenix summers /a/ELPOHYN

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Living in AZ: I can comfortably walk my dog between 4-6am

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My grandmother goes for her walks at 2-3 am

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Asphalt also radiates accumulated heat so your dog will breathe hotter air than you during evening walks. Bring water even if temp seems ok.

3 years ago | Likes 238 Dislikes 0

I mean you should always bring water anyway.

3 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 3

Unless you have my dog. You're lucky if that lazy mutt makes it half way down the street before heading back to the couch.

3 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Given a certain distance or heat level, yes. I find it totally unnecessary like 10 months a year if I'm within 20 mins of the car though

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

If there's an actual emergency, a creek or something will be fine for both of us. If we can't find a creek here we're too dumb to live

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

If you wouldn't walk on it barefoot, don't make your pet do so.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Who TF downvoted this?

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What an odd sequence. 72, 86, 87 --> 125, 135, 143? Does that make mathematical sense?

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It's actually even worse ... nice even steps of 77, 86, and 87.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think its to show an "average" hot temperature, then a "high" hot, then a slight increase. To show how quickly the pavement skyrockets.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

How would this sign read in Kelvins?

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Add 273 to the Celsius number

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It would be a lot darker, and you'd probably hear him screaming.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This goes for sand too. Got 2nd degree burns on my toe pads last year and that was noooo fun.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's why you have to run like a basilisk lizard to get to the water.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'll remember that this weekend with my legs splayed to the sides:-D

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Make sure to record it and post it here so we can laugh at... ahem... I mean, make sure you're doing it right.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I appreciate the support!

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Those asphalt temperatures seem quite a bit off

3 years ago | Likes 80 Dislikes 5

Definitely. Lived in Vegas and can only remember a few days when you couldn't stand on the concrete

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's accurate if you have prolonged direct sunlight on it. If it's 77 and cloudy or in the shade it will be closer to air temp.

3 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

Can be very different, especially if windy. Physics of heat transfer is incredibly complex and finicky.

3 years ago | Likes 53 Dislikes 0

“You could fry an egg”. Central CA in summer, tried it as kids. Yep, cooked an egg on the blacktop road in about 5 minutes.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Looks like it at first glance, but it's generally understood that asphalt can be 40-60 degrees F hotter than the surrounding air temperature

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

I'm a bit suspect of the jump between 86 and 87 degrees...

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Depends on the locality I think. Hot dry and never rains, sure. Where I am in the mid Atlantic? Maybe a couple days out of the year.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

You're probably right. Whatever 'standard' conditions are.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah I think the 60 seconds at 125 degrees is likely only if you leave your feet sitting on the asphalt rather than walking over it.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 4

There is a beach in MD called sandy point. It actually burns to just walk on the sand on hot sunny days. I don't doubt it

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No, live in Arizona you are not walking barefooted across asphalt without damage crossing the road, imagine 60 sec. No

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

when it is 7 7out? no. When it is 90-120 out sure. but i can stand barefoot on the asphalt mid day when the air temp is 77, and I dont 1/

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

have calluses on my feet. The temps are off on that sign.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have had so many flip flops melt into the asphalt here. I always check the sidewalk with my hand before I walk the dog.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I imagine due to altitude and weather, the asphalt in az is quite a bit warmer than a majority of the country.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yeah I'm sure this is true in the desert, and closer to the equator, and in the middle of a parking lot.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yep, Arizona, SoCal, Nevada, Texas… glorious death by sun.
