I was playing Doom, Heretic, Duke Nukem very young. I played MOHAA, Return To Castle Wolfenstein, every GTA title, Rainbox Six, etc. and never wanted to act in real life on what I saw in game because I already did that in game.

On the other hand, I wanted to act on every good movie I watched. I pretended to be Rocky, Power Ranger, TMNT, Robocop, a soldier and even today I get hyped when I watch something good and still want to act on it, but I don't because I'm an adult.

Find the real reason for violence, don't just blindly blame video games. In my opinion, not only are they not the cause. but they help you vent your anger.

Disclaimer: This is my own personal experience, I'm not an expert

OP is 28

It was a stupid deflection so they didn't have to address the real issues in the 90's, and it's the same in 2018.

I’ll agree with that entirely.

I can't believe you never burped or fart in public after played the classic GTA.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And when you play GTA online.....you learn how to scam people.

I did a research paper in undergrad on how violent video games have no affect on behavior.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The thing is, we're an easy to manipulate species, especially when young. Maybe if people didn't expose their kids to extreme violence ffs

(And I'm including myself. My parents let me watch a ton of fucked up shit, and I absolutely glorified it, especially crime movies)

At least you didn't get beat with jumper cables.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Yep nothing to do with guns or video games. Everything to do with human nature and the perverse incentives created by government.

Been shooting stuff in games since Wolf 3D in the early/mid 90s. Haven't committed a mass murder yet.

First time I played Super Mario Bros I grew a mustache and became a plumber. Never given the opportunity to rescue a princess though...

Are we ignoring the fact that your dad broke a BB gun over your back?

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

He almost blinded his friend and he seems like he did a lot of other stupid stuff too. Worth it.

The trick is to hit the legs

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

You're right, I don't feel a need to defuse bombs and rescue hostages anymore because of my favorite games.

No hostages? Must be a fuze.

“15 seconds remaining. Enemies are securing the biohazard container”

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

Fuck that, I'm not going anywhere near a biohazard container.

Personally, I blame the NES game Paperboy for my lifelong obsession with throwing newspapers through windows while biking.

It's a left hook.

...I did learn to walk in high heels because Sarah Kerrigan, Queen of Blades, was shown with Zerg carapace 'heels' and looked awesome.

The first time I read this post, I decided I no longer want kids.

The studies have been done, which is what the Video Games brought to the meeting with Trump. The sizzle reel he brought was a damn joke!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Video game execs. Sorry

I tried doing a split and punching my Dad in the dick when he got home from work cause I wanted to be Johnny Cage.

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

I bet your dad regret having you so much that day...

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Bet he still does...too soon?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Eh. Rocky was a south paw. Left hook.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Damn. Did your father beat you often?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

only as needed

The idea that video games cause violence is like autism and vaccines- it’s horseshit

8 years ago | Likes 110 Dislikes 8

That’s not an accurate statement.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 13

Awful comparison

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 11

Everything you just said is wrong! http://howdovaccinescauseautism.com

They don't cause it directly but most kids like to act out things they admire. Especially ones with powerful imaginations.

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

But most kids playing video games like that understand it's fiction and in most cases unrealistic.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Video games = we have control of the action occurring. Movie = monkey see, monkey do.

8 years ago | Likes 53 Dislikes 5

Yea. If anything, it's a stress RELIEVER!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I get annoyed after a long day, come home and shoot pederstrians in the face as I run from the cops. THEN I PLAY GTA! Wait no...

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Play GTA THEN the shooting

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You can teach 5yo to separate fiction from the real world... And you should seriously do it.

8 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 5

lol yeah, what does that comment have to do with yours?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Wasn’t there just some university study that said video games are rarely the influence for violence?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But they double your cancer chances due to all that salt

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Nothing more relaxing then poppin' heads in a shooter game after a long day... (Destiny 2 is my go to but any game works)

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Respect.

Oh that reminds me, I need to get me some iron banner tonight.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We're doing this again? Is it 1999? Is Jack Thompson back?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

So, you're saying we should censor violent movies?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Or have a restriction on the age that people can watch them, that might work

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That already is in place. It's just not enforced very well.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No, censorship is BS. I'm saying that movies are dangerous, but don't blame the movies. Parents shouldn't let their kids watch everything.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I used to watch porn when I was very young, but I don't go around with a mustache trying to bang everyone.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Art will influence behavior, in any medium. It's just bizarre that videogames get blamed in a culture that actively deifies soldiers/war.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

As well as guns and just general violence, with the plus of trying to dehumanize anything that gets classified as the "enemy".

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This is true for many countries, not just the US, just trade soldiers and war for other violent archetypes.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's sad you're never going to figure out how stupid you are.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

That may be true, however, It's hilarious how you think you're in an position to judge other people's intellect.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I assume you have the expertise or at least the evidence to back up your fallacy driven "argument".
