Here goes nothing.....

The Cake

I made this cake for my boyfriend's birthday a few months ago. Out of disparity, I asked him what he wanted, and all he said was a cake. I can do cakes. Cakes are my thing brah. So I made a cake for him with no experience with cakes other than your average bday cake. It was my first time working with fondant and making a large cake, but despite some of the poor execution in some areas, I'd say that it turned out pretty good for a first go.

Cakeie cake cake

This cake recipe is by far my favorite I've found. It's a little finicky, and doesn't fair too well in cupcake form, but its wonderful mouthfuls of rainbows and unicorns as a solid cake.

Here's it all stacked up with the base layer of fondant before all the decorations.
I overworked the fondant when I colored it, so just getting it to stick to the cake was a pain and made it all lumpy and broken.

A few days before making the cake I slowly made all the figurines and other pieces such as these that go on the pile of rainbows and unicorns.

I piped the spider-man design by hand I restarted almost 5 times just to get the shape right.

He was so elated!

I wish you could of seen his face when he saw it. There was the jaw drop and everything. He was just expecting a normal little birthday cake. But naw brah. I go big or I don't do it.
His reaction totally made up for the guilt of not being able to get him anything. 27 freakin hours doe, but every second of them was worth it :)
OH and that pipping of those letters doe. Aw man those are the best I've ever pipped.
