Live feeding captive snakes is just unnecessary and says alot about the person who does it.

Snake: Weird, that mouse tastes like snake!

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Feeding live is such a gross move, give me that snake since you don't know how to take care of it

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

That snake needs a counselor.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Stop feeding live prey to captive animals.

2 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 1

People that take pleasure in feeding live animals should all be shot behind the shed and their body dumped in a trash compactor. Also people don't know the difference between a mouse and a hamster apparently?

2 years ago | Likes 63 Dislikes 11

I was surprised more people didn’t realize it’s not got a tail as well

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sadly youtube is full of these vids catering the freaks that get off of this shit.

2 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 3

No, just put them in the trash compactor alive so they can feel what they put the animals through.

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 5

Snakes are not very smart... i had one and it would get its teeth caught in stuff or try and go through too small holes, frequently

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is that a young guinea pig? Is it not too big and is that normal snake food?

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 3

Snakes can eat really big things and no, it's not normal snake food. Snakes in captivity are usually fed dead mice.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

its about the right size meal for that snake, but you should NEVER give your pets live food unless they wont eat dead food under any circumstance. live food is dangerous for the snake, and cruel to the rodent

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Oh my god someone go in there and stop the snake from hurting itself

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

Yeah this is horrible snake ownership. Just filming (why even film that to begin with) while their snake injures itself.

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

I guess they really wanted to prove something, but at the cost of other less but still intelligent things having bad memories.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Snake won’t hurt itself unless it starts swallowing

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

This one deserves more credit

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

For sexually ambiguous reasons, and not for the health of the poor creature hurting itself because of reasons and I guess color. Color is just a rate of oscillation, ultimately… anyway……..

I genuinely believe I've witnessed the pinnacle of snake stupidity today. The snake deserves to win a page in the Guinness Book of World Records

2 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

I relate to that snake so hard... Wayyy back my cousins were pestering me, and I got home of an arm behind me which I proceeded to pinch as hard as I could. I was wondering why that didn't yield the expected response... Until they asked why I was pinching myself 😅 Always did have good pain tolerance 😋

Why the fuck are they feeding it a live pet hamster?

2 years ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 2

Who knows. Hamsters have way too much fat content to be good feeders

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's inhumane but also dangerous. I've seen snakes who were "fed" live rats, only the rat was smart enough to start eating the snake first.

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Catching the hamsters in the wild would be way more expensive

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

Too right.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Trying* to feed it.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah that’s really bizarre. Hamsters aren’t typical live snake food.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Somebody wants to see it kill something. It's like those videos of komodo dragons eating goats whose legs are broken beforehand. I guess some people consider it entertainment.

2 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 1

Not suggesting people wouldn’t do what you’re saying, but Komodo dragons do slash tendons themselves to cripple before eating

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You guess? We're the species that invented blood sports. The species that decided a "lower caste" of people fighting and killing each other not over land or resources, but for the amusement of others was a good idea. Plenty of people still around that would gladly see countless die for their amusement regardless of legality or morality.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I guess my question was more rhetoric. Like "why the fuck?"

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

This is not the way. Modern zoos, Wildlife Rehabilitators, and snake owners now feed snakes using dead (usually frozen & allowed to defrost to room temp or warmed in warm water) animals and use tongs to give the impression of movement and for handler safety. It is safer for the snake (besides this snake injuring itself, live prey can attack the snake), and it is much kinder for the prey animal. Anyone still feeding live prey is poorly educated and/or a psychopath.

2 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 1

True, but a small number will refuse dead feeders no matter what. That's the only case when it's acceptable to live feed under close supervision

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Never ever ever ever live feed. The snake is fighting for a meal and the rat is fighting for its life. And snakes are quite possibly some of the dumbest animals on the planet i do not know how they arent exitinct. Never live feed.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

*extinct

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you think snakes are dumb, try owls. You know that episode of SpongeBob where he forgot everything but fine dining and breathing? That's owls, but instead of fine dining it's hunting rodents.

Cunts feeding live animal

2 years ago | Likes 76 Dislikes 8

2 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 48

Not sure why you're getting down votes so much, ignorance is not malic.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No, you’re supposed to kill the mouse before feeding it to the snake. Otherwise it’s cruelty to both the mouse and the snake.

2 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 2

It's unnecessary and says alot about the people who see no wrong in it. Proud owner of a GTP

2 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

Its not natural when the prey has zero chance of escape. The Guinea Pig is not wild so has no idea of its fate otherwise it might try to hide somewhere or attack back.
An albino snake would have been eaten long ago as no camoflage
Live feeding seems to be more about getting a sick rush for the feeder

2 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 2

Most snakes can be trained to accept dead animals like newborn mice, which can be bought as frozen pet food. It's safer for the snake too since live prey might fight back.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's what they eat in the wild. But I guess there are different rules in captivity... Watching zoo shows on TV I learned that (at least in Germany) barely any animal is being fed live prey (excluding maggots, crickets and other insects) and there are strict laws about it.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

And exactly that is the reason why many predators in zoos go bonkers. Because they can't follow their instinct and that's really bad for them over the long run. That's one reason why cats walk up and down their cage

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

You know there are many ways to simulate their natural environment, entertain and let animals follow instincts without using living animals as prey? A local zoo to me puts meat on the back of a vehicle and drives around the Lion enclosure for them to chase, for example.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What zoe has maggots?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Every herpetology expert in the world agrees that snakes and other lizards kept in captivity should be fed killed prey ONLY. They are surprisingly fragile creatures, and if their ambush isn't successful, they are actually quite vulnerable to counterattack by live prey.

2 years ago | Likes 50 Dislikes 2

Also, the torture on the live prey.

2 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

As opposed to the sweet slipping into that gentle night of prey that have been pre-killed, or of prey animals in the wild. I am not so worried about that, though I find it very distasteful that a person would set up a situation dangerous for the snake and distressing for the prey purely for their own amusement.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

As opposed to a quick death (instead of hours or sometimes days into a cage waiting for the snake to be hungry) or natural selection. Using live animals is just sadism.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Effect*

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

I'll admit, that's one I always have difficulty with, affect or effect. Always need to take a moment and still second guess myself after.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I just remember it's always the opposite of what I'm thinking.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you're not sure, use impact instead.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I've used impact or hit or synonyms a few times for that reason. Luckily, I mostly work verbally, so it's not always important to have that right.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't see how any animal with venom would automatically be immune to its own venom. It's not like the venom just randomly courses through their veins, it's inside specialized organs.

2 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 6

not automatically, but they are often at least resistant to their own poisons by evolution because self-injuries or intra-species fights occur...

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

The antidote is made out of their venom and some people, who work and live where dangerous snakes are, inject tiny amounts of the snake's venom into their body, because it creates an immunity over time. I don't know if this is true for all venoms and if snakes are immune to their own venom, but it would be weird if not, when others can get immune to it by injecting it.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Is ok that you don't intuitively see that, but some research before you go spouting that opinion would be wise. Some snake are able to take their own venom, without dieing.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Hence me stating it as opinion, not fact. :) Thank you for the explanation though, I'm always happy to learn.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

But it's not because they are "immune" to the venom, it's because that venom is designed for mamalian physiology so it doesn't affect the snake which is a reptile. Similar to how if you get the flu, your dog won't, but not because it's immune, but because that particular virus doesn't attack canines the way it does humans. A venomous snake that eats reptiles would absolutely be more likely to die if it bit itself and envenomated itself

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

That’s true in some cases but not all. Some snakes are snake eaters and their venom is able to work on other snakes. King Cobras are an example. They have resistance to many types of snake venom including their own, but enough of it can be deadly.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

When I was told that you should feed snakes already-dead mice so they don't get hurt, I thought the threat would come from the *mouse*. . . .

2 years ago | Likes 107 Dislikes 2

And that's a hamster, which is far more likely to fight back effectively than a mouse would.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It can. A mouse easily has enough jaw strength to punch through a snake’s skull, and the snake does not usually have the ability to defend itself.

2 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 2

If anyone gets punched through the skull I hope it's the person who conducts live feeding.

2 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 5

Sad it took this many comments to find it said! What a disgusting thing to do. Live feed should be illegal

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I had roommates that kept snakes, and on the rare occasion that a snake stopped accepting frozen-thawed mice, they would get a live one, kill it (internal decapitation), then immediately offer it to the snake. Under no circumstances would they offer the snake live food; freshly-killed and still twitching, yes, but never live.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My dad used to breed rattlesnakes before i was born, he had a gorgeous eastern diamond back rattlesnake, he used to feed them live rats, he put one in before leaving for work, when he came back the rat was still alive, and the snakes head was off, dad was so pissed he picked up the snakes head and bit the rat with it. From then on he always killed them with a few hefty whacks to the back of the head with a heavy enough tool for good measure.

2 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 4

Why t f would somebody create more rattlesnakes?!l

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Milking them for venom probably

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

If a snake is well fed it won't eat the mouse immediately but the mouse will kill the snake if left alone for too long.

2 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

I’m on the mouse’s side on this one.

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 3
