My wife and I had baby #2, and her parents from Germany came to visit and help out. Instead of helping they acted like it was bed and breakfast. Instead of being happy, they were criticizing everything we did and complained.

I'm an easy going person and truly just want people to be happy. The time we have here is short so just realize you are a product of your own creation. Nobody is responsible for your happiness except you. Choose happiness.

Sorry, just venting. Feel free to downvote away into oblivion.

FP edit: Thanks for all the support. Many reached out to show where support groups can be found. Update, they just visited again, this time for six weeks. FIL played solitaire the whole time and MIL complained about how my wife moved away (20 years ago) and how they could watch our kids every weekend if she was back in Germany. Don't fly 5k miles to not spend quality time with grandkids and bitch about the past. I still don't get it. Send me whatever you think is amazing!

@OP it was your job to set them straight. Your house, your rules. They don't like it they can leave.

My in-laws also came over to "help". That's the last time they have stayed over...lol. Making noise while baby was sleeping, I did same @2am

What is this even from?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Eight weeks with house guests? You deserve a Nobel peace prize for not killing them.

With bonus points because of the new kid.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Stationed overseas, friends w/ newborn had their parents complain of not enough sightseeing

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Your in laws peppered this precious first weeks of your child's life with bullshit. Be gone evil in laws. Let good memories remain.

9 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

Never really thought of it like that. That would explain my son's reaction here. +1

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Dude if it were 8 days it would be understandable if you vented. 8 weeks, you deserve a reward, ya know beyond them leaving.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

You reminded me I need to find my happy.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

ok, will downvote. but i feel ya on the choosing happiness by ironically flipping you off as well.

Perhaps I am just lucky but....I freaking love my in-laws man. We spend a ton of time with them and really enjoy it.

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Same. Sadly, my in-laws are actually more supportive than my actual family. And they taught me a lot of stuff.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

House guests are like fish. After three days they start to smell.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sounds like German in laws. Interview your girlfriends parents before marriage.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's ok, I struggle being with my in-laws for 2 days.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

No one complains more than a German

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

& the says they're not complaining, but "helping" or some crap like that.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Do NOT let people come over after having a baby. I don't care who they are. They can fuck off for at least 9 weeks.

9 years ago | Likes 56 Dislikes 1

W/ baby #1, we had them leave for a week. They of course got offended and pouty. But then they were here for just as long then.

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

Advice noted. Thank you.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Something as simple as a cold sore on a mouth can cause a child to become deathly ill. Everyone is invited to fuck off for 2 months

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

It's strange but every serious relationship I've had has been with a man who's parents have passed away. No in law issues, ever.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

good life choices. I think I may marry an immigrant as it's hard for them to bring their parents over too

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Had you met many Germans before? Because in my experience, lovely people that they can be, by God they love telling you how to do stuff.

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Sadly this is true :/ As a german, I can confirm it.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Germans own

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

My mom's german-heritage. this explains a lot.

Yes! This

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Holy shit. Eight weeks?!?!

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Mine were here last year and coming back again this year for 2 months. Last year I wasnt working and doing to everything they wanted. 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Let's see what happens this year when baby's at daycare and I'm working. 2/2

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

This shit is exactly what ruined my 6 year long relationship with the only human I ever loved or cared about. I'm glad you guys made it.

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

Whoa, sorry to hear that. I can see how that could be possible.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Yeah...same in-laws, just varied with that she wanted so much to be accepted by them, and everything she done was wrong...so as us. 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

What you guys did is what we could not, accept that you are the only one responsible for your life and happiness. At this point please 2/3

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

stay together forever, and be happy. You deserve it.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Went house hunting with my husband of 4 months. Father in law ended up explaining to the realtor his plan to live with us for a year or two

Yikes

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

That sounds exactly what my parents did. My dad acts like a 5 year old and I was taking care of all their needs plus my infant at the time.

9 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

Did he have medical problems? My dad had a while back stroke and acts exactly the same, not excusing just wondering if that's the cause

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I work in the medicine, I think there is some early stages of Alzheimer's going on, but too early to diagnose.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Long story short, my mom babies him. He's on dialysis 3 days/week. He acts up when he's not the center of attention and gets violent.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He punched my mom and gave her a huge bruise on her arm when she told him to stop acting like a child.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Baby needs a timeout then... that's not okay

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In-laws for 8 weeks?? Venting approved.

9 years ago | Likes 1186 Dislikes 6

Yeah you have to be extremely patient to have survived that with marriage intact.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a side note: this child is my spirit animal. That is all.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Agreed, you poor bastard, longest I lasted was 8 minutes...

9 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 0

Should see a doctor about that. It's a common male problem

9 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 0

My in laws moved in with us for what was supposed to be 3 months, it's nearly 2 years now. Kill me. Please.

9 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 0

Check username.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I thought anything over one week was illegal tbh.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I never understood this. Why not just tell them to fuck off. Or better yet, spend 8 weeks in their house criticizing everything.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Lol it doesn't sound like you are married. That's not how it works.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 4

No, if my parents came over and did this shit, their ass would be out on the street. Looks like YOU don't know how a marriage works.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

Exactly. Your marriage, your house, your rules. End of discussion.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

Jesus Christ, with an attitude like that, I hope you're not married or in any relationship.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Just goes to show, 80 years later, no one likes it when the Germans invade.

9 years ago | Likes 457 Dislikes 15

I laughed more than the usual for a silly punch line

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

It blows my mind that it's already been 80 years, I didn't think it has been that long

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well... technically only 78 on the invasion of Poland, but still.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You think buy know they would realise that kyle doesnt want to be seen.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

fucking holy shit i trainwrecked that entire sentence. i need another drink

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

No, no. I think you're done for the night.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

too late!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Unpopular opinion coming: Pregnant or not, your wife should have set them straight on day one. Good for you for being patient, though.

9 years ago | Likes 274 Dislikes 8

More unpopular opinion, he could have said something and not been a bitch. It's his house too

9 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 6

It's generally accepted, I think, that the offspring of the offending parents handles them, so s/he doesn't end up in the middle.

9 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 1

There is a large language barrier, and I have no problem telling someone off, however, my wife strongly disapproved trying. Fuel to the fire

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

maybe read up on different tactics for dealing with different relatives? It can help give you ideas.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

*difficult relatives

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I agree, but in defense, everytime she says something it only makes things worse.

9 years ago | Likes 147 Dislikes 1

You both might want to visited r/raisedbynarcissists. It might help for the next time.

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Yeah, sometimes they'll literally laugh in your face! Thanks, ma!
