Sure hope those 2 republicans that voted twice are held to the same illegally voting standards as everybody else
LokiOnTheCouch
BeenisWeenis
Now imagine the upcoming presidential election and this issue en masse.
youcanifIcan
This is how all elections will go not just the sheriff election.
We already saw this with Kyle Rittenhouse

If anyone wants an example of Republicans and Christians

Chromentor
If they succeeded to cram in a school shooting in there it would be the most American thing I have ever read.
FactWino
I wonder if they aren’t creating their own irregularities just for this purpose.
BiologyIsInevitable
Did you not read the part in the article where they justified the recount because two people voted twice? They intentionally omit that the two were Republican.
SilverFoxChaser
Someone needs to get Bill Compton on his ass.
GlenL
He's accusing a black person of a crime without evidence. He's clearly made his case that he's qualified for the job
writerbuddy
As hard as it is to believe, that system may be rigged. The folks who voted twice, they're in prison awaiting trial, right?

"Voting while black" should not be a crime.
empire161
Republicans will cheat and rig the election. If they win, the stacked courts will allow outcome. If they lose, the stacked courts will throw it because it was rigged. New elections will happen until the Republican wins. This is why every single election, and every name ln the ballot, matters.
SnoopyDancing
they can all just fuck off! so tired of their racist bullshit
glovelyday
Register. Vote. Crush the opponents of democracy by so much votes can't be challenged. Every vote counts.
Virus322
Until a court decides it doesn't count or the state decides to just ignore the vote.
glovelyday
Every vote counts.
AlmostCertainlyNotPickles
I voted for Whitehorn, and if he won by one vote he won by a thousand. The other guy can kiss a cactus.
thotterpop
my phone is too laggy (happens a lot with this app) and I can't look up gifs right now.
paxnor
Ah, Louisiana...scumbag state...I DO NOT miss you...
Kyzyl
It's almost as if there's some example of this terrible behavior of undermining election confidence and democracy itself that's inspiring these chuckleheads.
stsword
They've been shitting on democracy for decades. Texas went red because the Texas GOP used money laundering to get elected and then gerrymandered. The GOP literally started a violent riot in Florida to stop the recount so that the Supreme Court would appoint Bush Jr the president. The NC GOP admitted in court that their "voter ID" law targeted black voters.
kozmo403
Racism + the (now) old republican battle cry of "ELECTION IRREGULARITIES!" without any proof of such. Yay, 'murica!
StellarJay77
It's only irregularities when they lose.
Kyzyl
Questioning elections is the new dog whistle (bullhorn).
SomeDetroitGuy
Well, they did discover that two Republican leaders voted twice for the loser.
Jackpot7777777
Why do Republicans hate America with a seething irrational hatred for its free elections?
ChiLLeCheeze
They don't though? They love "free" elections. Terms and conditions apply though. You guys ever use a free account compared to a premium account?
battleofhastings1066
Because free elections don't yield the results they demand.
stsword
Because they have trouble finding enough fools willing to vote against their own best interests to elect scoundrels.
n0n53n53
only if they "lose"
Nostradamuswaswrong
“Maybe you do not care much about the future of the Republican Party. You should. Conservatives will always be with us. If conservatives become convinced that they can not win democratically, they will not abandon conservatism. The will reject democracy.”
― David Frum
Legomaniac91
Because free elections are fundamentally incompatible with their ceaseless hunger for power.
TrapperQ
They don't hate America, they hate Unamericans. They just hate not being able to decide who the Unamericans are.
SkaerKrowe
Whitey is a sore loser.
cousteau
Yeah, what a piece of work
MidasTheAlchemist
As a white person, whitey is indeed a sore loser.

Honky gonna honk.

Confused European here; do Americans elect law enforcement? why would... who.. but.. nevermind, the dumpster is lit, lets just watch it burn...
Zahnradfee
In and of itself, electing your law enforcement might not be a bad thing. But of course there needs to be a way to ensure they are qualified for the job.
Ialwayslookhungover
Bro we elect the fucking coroner.
GhostOfAnrui
Is the coroner fucking dead people? Is there a stream?
kEMup
riplikash
Only sherriff's. Yeah, it's still weird. Police chiefs are appointed. A few places appoint sherrifs, but usually they're elected. Supporters see it as a "check and balance" against appointed police chiefs. Where police chiefs are beholden to a city council sherrifs are supposed to be accountable to the "people". Though, surprising no one, the VAST MAJORITY of sheriffs are white males, and the vast majority of people they are are white as well.
Gryphonosiris
And you don't need to have a background in law enforcement or even the law to get elected.
LupusLilium
Honestly in a better world it'd make sense to elect those who enforce the rules, with incoming sheriffs being allowed to decide to continue on the contracts of deputies or not. Means if there is a problem in enforcement the locals can vote for someone who'd fix those issues. Of course in our world it means rampant corruption.
WillLickNudibranchsForBUzz
Thanks for explaining.
MaybeIllDisappear
Wait wait... So the two people that voted twice were registered republicans. Once again Republicans are calling foul because they cheated and still lost.
TacoPoweredHelicopter
Yes, they cheated and lost. Therefore the other side must have cheated even harder. It's simple math really.
n0n53n53
"how could he win when we cheated, he must have cheated too"
GenuineBeamm
What bugs me is, if the tactic is to point out some of their own illegitimate votes to cancel an election with undesirable results... Then those voters thrown under the bus should be convicted of electoral fraud right? Or you can just keep doing it forever
computekid
I don't know about this case but I'm pretty sure it's the forever thing.
Gryphonosiris
Yep, they think that since they cheated the other side must be cheating harder.
StontiumJaguar
I wouldn’t be surprised if this becomes a tactic the Republican Party will employ going forward. Just have a some small number of people knowingly vote twice to create the irregularities so they can call the election into question if they lose.
atowa
Then to solve this we harshen the punishment for voting twice. Make it a felony crime to prevent it from happening again.
