My astrophotography setup, took about a year to assemble all. It's been a while since my last post here but i'd like to share my greatest captures! Sorry, i'm still a begginer so don't mind that i'm still learning how to edit my photos, not the best quality around but i'm proud to make my own captures!

My new cooled dedicated camera with a new set of filters (H-alpha, S-II and O-III) when the weather helps me, i'll be trying to make a hubble pallet register!

The most amazing thing I've seen on imgur.

I remember the “ol’ days” of chilled film.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

A few Astrophotography friends from time to time tell me those things! I can't even imagine how much work that would be!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Very nice. I was going to post something about not seeing Uranus despite having the equipment to do so. I'm impressed and a bit envious.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

someone beat you there today! hahaha

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is amazing! I love you pictures. Please keep on sharing from time to time. I'm gonna follow you.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Thank you for the words! I'm glad you liked them! I'm usually posting only on reddit but i'll try to post here more often!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That would be very kind. You would make my day. :)

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No UFO/UAP ?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not gonna lie, i expend quite a while outside, even in a urban area, i saw weird things already! And i know how to difference...

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sattelites, ISS, drones or airplanes around ?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Awsome! Any tips for beginners? I've been looking into telescopes the last few weeks.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

lol.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 7

I got started here - I am still a beginner... https://www.lonelyspeck.com/sony-a6000-astrophotography-review/

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I would start with a cheap used DSLR and a tripod! that's enough to start, since there's a lot of things to learn before starting those ...

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

gears! You need to learn how to setup the camera correctly, long exposure shots, stacking images and pos processing! Takes time and effort..

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But you can do amazing stuff with a dslr+lens kit and a tripod! The secret is stacking your images, so you can bring more details to the img

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's all in the editing, and all the photoshop pluggins cost £9999

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Seriously though, in Uni we used ''ImageJ' to do image manipulation for these kind of photos. A lot of power with a free open source program

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Stacking is the way! Also i only use free softwares, like DeepSkystacker, Siril and GIMP!

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If you want to do astrophotography dont cheap out on the mount, it may seem like a good place to cut corners but its the most important part

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yes that true! With a good mount and a dslr you can do wonders! But you can aways start with a used dslr and a tripod, that's enough to ..

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

start learning the basics of Astrophotography, stacking and pos processing images!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wow...

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Thanks everyone for the kind words! I have to go to the uni lab right now, but i'll try to reply everyone when i get back!

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

*sweating* The kit, The pics, The spec details...

Thanks ?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

when theu said "shoot for the moon" this isnt what they meant.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nice... can you ever get that out to some proper dark skies?

4 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Most of my shots it's made on a bortle 9 sky! i'm still waiting for the pandemic to pass, but i do have acess to bortle 5 sky from time to t

4 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

I imagine in Houston, also Bortle 9. It's a challenge, but sure is nice imaging from the couch!

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Is a higher number brighter? What's the darkest sky? For me, Atacama Desert was the best, but I've been to Mauna Loa & rural Canada too

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

1 is the lowest 9 is highest.

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Wanted to say 1 is the darkest 9 is the brightest sky. Genius me...

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Dude needs to move into middle of nowhere - felt sad ur a pro but surrounded by all that light pollution.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

There are filters that can cut out quite a bit of it, actually. Not a perfect solution, but far cheaper than moving

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Would take that chance in a heartbeat ?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

any novice looking to buy a telescope hoping to see these kind of images, that's not how it will appear. this is in the editing. >

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

i still highly recommend looking up at the sky with scope, it's worth learning about and amazing to view. but you're basically seeing >

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

white light and maybe very faint color on jupiter or orions nebula among other things.but don't be dissuaded just don't expect these results

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

nebulas and distant galaxies tend to look like fuzzy light blurs lol

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

that's true, most of things you can only see with long exposure shots! But it's still a nice hobby to stargaze around, my first time seeing

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

saturn's rings and Jupiter with its moons was amazing! Star cluster are my favorite, you can a bunch of stars poping and blinking with diffe

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

different colours, like a christmas tree!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lol I like the Pleiades, northern hemisphere... enjoyed seeing southern, thank you for sharing!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's really cool. Would you be able to share the all the equipment list?

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

i will do a post later and post here the link ok? thanks for the words!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That would be great, thanks a lot

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Following to also see the list. Thanks for your help on the smaller setup with the ZWO and Canon lens. I'm duplicating that setup myself!

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thanks for the new screensaver!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm happy to read that :)

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It looks expensive.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's, but i started with a simpler setup tbh, just a used dslr+tripod is enough to begin!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nice! You've been followed and added to my astronomy folder if you care to check out some other shots (not mine, just randoms from Imgur).

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanm you man! Sure ill check it out later! There's aways a different processing/target from our fellas astrophotography! It's quite amazing

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nice! Base camera aside, how much was it to build the setup?

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

A good setup will run you at least $2000-3000 if you want the capacity for an actual scope and tracking mount. (1/3)

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The scope will generally be $1000-1500, the mount will be $800-1200, and the rest of the equipment on top of that. (2/3)

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've spent around 4500$ included 2 dslrs + buch of expensive filters + adpters and all, but I'm from brazil and here things coats 2x ..

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

but basically the mount is $500 in us + around $300 for the telescope! You will need other things like a guiderscope + camera for guiding..

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A "budget" setup is using the SkyWatcher Star Adventurer (SWSA), a camera, and a Rokinon 135mm lens. That will be a good starter. (3/3)

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Mercury should be well visible in the recent days after sunset, have you tried that?

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I don't know if being in the south emsfere would influence on that, but i already observed other planets, it's just that my set is more...

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

focussed on deep space objetcs, it's got a low focal distance so it's not really good for planetary imaging

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

These photos are out of this world!!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Indeed ?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Superb. Drakes Law non withstanding, the sheer number of stars you are showing here means the must be habitable planets out there somewhere.

4 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Probably easier to upload our consciousness into a computer than to travel to a new star system.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

when stacking my images the program can find up to 100,000+ stars in a single frame, so i wouldn't be surprised as well

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Always puts me in awe when I think about the possibility of a planet in those frames containing life, we just can't see it.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Unfortunately, there is one we see daily and can't appreciate.??

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

AFAIR out of all the observable stars we found 9 planets that seem able to host life like earth. 9. Not millions. Not thousands. Nine.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

We are the epitome of "stroke of luck". At least for now.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Key caveats: "like earth" and also, those are *so far*.

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Terrestrial exoplanets are much harder to find though. We've found thousands of gas giants, but it doesn't mean they're more common.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Man this is so fricken cool. Can I see Uranus?

4 years ago | Likes 204 Dislikes 3

I’ll show you mine for a chocolate chip cookie.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nope but he's seen Thors helmet

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

With that last one, I think you can see Ursmallintestine

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Just wait for the pics after I destroy Uranus!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

How about a naked neighbor?

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Not today my friend ?

4 years ago | Likes 96 Dislikes 0

What about your ass?

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

4 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 0

Also, I followed you so please post more space more frequently.

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I'll try but the weather here is not helping! hahaha check the lobster+cat paws photo, there's something looking like a butt there !

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

@op how much is the cost of the entire device?

4 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Yes please

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah @op, what’s the cost? I told my wife I want to buy her one of these.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

She needs it to find my dick

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Money+1

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why so serious?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

this. Very curious!

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

There's about $4500 with 2 dslrs+ new camera, but you can make one with way less, I'm from brazil and things get here coasting 2x also

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

brazilian reais is worth 6x less than US dollars, it sucks! Including sellers profit + taxs + shipping, so its way overpriced!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

but i got so many acessories too, expensive filters that deal with light pollution as well!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I got you bro, I'm from Argentina

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

let's wait for @OP, but my guess is left kidney and half of the liver

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Before all that i used to "invest" in csgo skins, which brought me a huge profit and dollar really went up in my country, so I'm fortunate..

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

that my gaming hobby paid those gears!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How many kidneys do you have?

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Is that you, Xi Jinping?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well he seems very interested in people's surplus organs.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It varies with equipment. The mount is most important. My husband’s small set up cost probably $1900.

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Yeah, the mount you could get for $500 a new one in US (not my case) and a cheap used dslr and any lens would be quite enough to start!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'd say this is a pretty fair guess. The camera is an Eos Kiss, which is an APS-C hobbyist grade camera. It's a great camera, 1/?

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

the camera is a canon 650D modified, i got it for cheap since its quite beaten and almost 100k clicks!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

but I wouldn't say it's expensive. The glass doesn't look expensive to me, but it certainly could be. The wildcard is the tripod unit.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

So, I looked up the astrotech lenses, and they retail for like 600-1200 bucks depending on the lens. It's not exactly a telephoto lens, 3/?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's more of a literal telescope as a lens. but the glass is like F/4 or F/6, so you wouldn't shoot a wedding with it. a F2.8 tele is ~2-3K$

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you look at the post you can see he is using a cooled QHYCCD by now.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Right now i'm with the QHY163 but since i got everything done i only had one clear night here, so it wasn't enough to finish a target now...

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

that i got that mono camera, will take more time to capture using those 3 filters!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I see now. TBH, it's such a niche part, I wouldn't even know where to begin with that. Canon's pro grade sensors come in at ?/?

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

4K USD for like 40Megapixels. That sensor is in that neighborhood. I think that part alone has got to be pretty pricey. Still. Cool AF.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's cooled by water or fans? Does the temperature of the lens go up enough? I have an entry level zhumell. It's a pos because I can't

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Find specific things wo using an app.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's fan cooled camera, since you make long exposure photos, the sensor heat up and more noise comes to your photos! So lowering it helps

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

with the noise! I didn't quite understand your second question?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0
