STOP ARGUING ABOUT THE VALIDITY OF A JOB. JUST HANG UP! GET ON WITH YOUR LIFE!

11 years ago | Likes 84 Dislikes 10

its a fuckin job, would you rather these people do nothing and collect welfare?

11 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 8

A wholehearted YES. Please put all those fuckers on welfare. Be DONE with this shit!

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 26

I get phoned several times a day at my business by telemarketers. I started out being polite... but now it pisses me off.

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

I just set the phone down on a pair of earbuds playing sounds of cats meowing.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I always listen to the opening statement. I then decline with, "I'm sooty, but I'm not interested. Have a nice day" *click* Why be a dick[1]

11 years ago | Likes 104 Dislikes 14

"What, were you climbing in a chimney...?"

11 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 1

"Yeah. I works nights as a chimney sweep. I'm all sooty and need to shower before bed. Sorry but I'll have to let you go."

I'd be lying if I said Ive never been a complete asshole when someone woke me well before I wanted to get up. It happens.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I usually let calls go to voicemail when I am cleaning my chimney or fireplace, personally. Bad joke aside, I agree with you.

11 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 1

Sonnuvabitch...see, this is why I hate making comments on mobile. Fucking autocorrect. But I did lol at your comment once I saw my mistake.

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

As a phone interviewer (surveys, not selling), that is the best approach. We can safely mark you as refusing the survey and move on. (1/2)

11 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

That way when our dark deity rises it shall know who to smite. (2/2)

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

The people who hang up without a word get marked as "no answer" and get called in a week or so. Same with answering machines.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Good to know.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I usually tell them to take me off their call list. It saves time later.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Seriously. Even a simple "I'm not interested. Please stop calling, thanks" is better than being a total jerk and harassing the poor guy.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

to someone that's just doing their job, and most likely just following a script/orders? [END]

11 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 3

I disagree. You have the right to choose your job and he chose one that's parasitic in nature. Same logic goes with paparazzi. fuck em

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

I have no patience for telemarketers. But its a quick answer - no - hang up. Keep it simple.

11 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 9

im ok with that.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

Just today (on Saturday!) I had one call at 9 in the morning (I usually sleep until 10 or 11), and wouldn't take no and not interested for …

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

…an answer, and kept asking when she could call back, then hung up when I asked for full company name and address.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

yeah I don't wait for them to say anything. click the answer button. say no. hang up. if they call again I get vocal and hang up again.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Downvoted him. What a douche.

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

Am I the only o ne who can't hang up on telemarketers? I feel odd

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

This is why I won't let my husband mess with telemarketers/salesmen. Just say no thanks and hang up/shut the door/walk away. Don't be a dick

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

It obviously wasn't his first choice for a job; he was desperate for work. Putting him down about it is a douche move. +1

11 years ago | Likes 360 Dislikes 50

Third shift is never anyone's first choice but Jason didn't give a fuck about that mans sleep. Fuck Jason

11 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 19

Because Jason probably had his first choice job/didn't give the man opportunities to hang up.... Even told the man to hang up

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

People really need to be made aware of this "end call" feature on phones.I'm so surprised so many people on the internet are unaware of this

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

You take a job as a telemarketer, you're compromising social ethics and morals for a marginally better paycheck than retail or waiting 1/3

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 7

tables and the convenience of sitting all day. I've met plenty who worked longer than they wanted in each, and telemarkers' overriding 2/3

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 6

goal was sloth if they weren't going to make decent money at a job. Given a handful of crappy choices, character shows through choice. 3/3

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 5

I know what you mean but harassing people over the phone should be forbidden. I'm thinking about not having a phone in my eventual new home.

11 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 5

A lot of people are cutting the cord on house lines and only using cell phones nowadays

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You mean landline? Is there ANY reason to have a land line anymore?

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

specifially because of how often it was abused by telemarketers, I havent had a landline in over 10 years

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I don't have a landline, and can block callers on my cell :D

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I can block callers on my phone, but the fuckers keep calling with slightly different numbers. Telemarketing is seriously not cool.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Now I do get spam robocalls from various numbers constantly, but those aren't legal telemarketers.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Like somone said on the last post, learning that somone is sleeping for a graveyard shift the correct response is;"Sorry, bye." Not keep 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 16

Talking 2/2

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 10

That might not work for all the people who work in telemarketing. When I worked as a telemarketer I was told to keep the (1/2)

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

customer on the line for as long as possible, or I'd get yelled at :/

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I feel ya. I was told to put the Jews in the gas chamber, or I'd get yelled at, too. (Godwin strikes again!)

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I'm surprised that nobody knows that when you get a call from a telemarketer, you can hang up. People need to be made aware of this.

11 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

are you kidding? I used to have to leave my phone off the hook all night to get sleep. maybe its better lately, wouldnt know, dropped line

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

I dunno, my phone has a feature that if i put it face down, it won't ring unless it's from a pre-selected numbers on a list I made.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

that sounds pretty handy, but what if police are calling, or family from jail? I'd rather just have mobile, where telemarketing is illegal

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So basically, at night, only family members could get a hold of me, for emergencies and such.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

When you're on 3rd shift the correct response is to hang up and go to sleep

It's insinuated he was making fun of the guy when he asked him if his mother was proud of his "successful career." IMO it was douchey.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I always upvote Joe Dirt

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

-1 for everyone saying post his number for a mass attack. There is no reason to cost someone their job for trying to make a buck.

11 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 10

He says that he knows Jason couldn't just hang up, but harasses him because he didn't just hang up... what a douche.

11 years ago | Likes 588 Dislikes 45

bs. he said he told jason he was a nightshift worker and jason pushed him instead of being polite and letting it go. Totally deserved it.

Good on you for owning up to it.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've had plenty of telemarketers hang up on me

11 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 7

Same, the moment I've said no thanks or similar *click* not a big deal. Maybe different countries have different rules.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They are allowed to under certain circumstances I think.

11 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Every call center job I've had we were not allowed to hang up on anyone, ever. If they're getting abusive, the manager can hang up for you

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I've never worked in a call centre, mostly going by what my mum has said about it in the past when she used to work in one.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Had that summer job long time ago, I hung up on every single assbutt. Granted, I could do that because it was just a temporary job.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

How some can keep doing it year after year is far beyond me.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It might depend on how strict their boss is and how much job security they have. Poor Jason... :/

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Did you swear? Most companies allow employees to hang up if you're being verbally abusive.

11 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

No, I don't go that far.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I used to worked in a call centre, thankfully not telemarketing. Callers can be very creative in their methods of mental & verbal abuse 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

2/2 without swearing. I got written up for hanging up after spending 10 minutes repeatedly being called a stupid, pathetic failure

That's horrible. The shit we do to each other and the shit we do to get by.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

"In the interest of not wasting each others' time: please add me to your do-not-call list. Thank you! *click*"

11 years ago | Likes 60 Dislikes 9

DNC requests would put customers on the company list, but I had to guide people to make requests to be put on the federal DNC many times.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's not always that easy; some companies just ignore you if you do this and keep calling you. There's NOTHING you can do about it.

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I'm pretty sure that's actionable.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes but I should not waste my time and patience in this; they should just do the right thing.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You can do plenty about it if you're motivated enough. It's illegal to call someone on a do not call list.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Well, if they hang up as soon as you mention "do not call" there's not much you can do about it legally.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You can call around and have all the company's known numbers blocked from your phone. Like I said, if you're motivated enough.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They normally use some sort of phone proxy shit. Also on cellphones maybe but on landline phones it's harder.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

OP HERE: I HAVE REQUESTS TO PUBLISH WORK STORIES. NOT GOING TO MAKE A POST, JUST A COMMENT. +1 FOR YES -1 FOR NO. TY.

11 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 27

atleast im not makin a seperate post about it. XD

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 10

I'll send you stories I've got. Like the lady who tried to use her dead husband to get internet.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

....yes. beautiful

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Just make it anyways. Someone will find it interesting. There are a few job things that die in usersub, but sometimes it's a good read

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

not intentionally double dipping, just a busy guy who wants to know if there is a genuine demand.

11 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 14

I personally love the work stories! I think they're really great. Also I'd like to know what post you're referencing with this one.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

its in the description.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

btw, your username "vagineer"

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Nobody likes telemarketers, even other telemarketers. Speaking as someone who's done the job, it sucks and it wears on your conscience.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

If you don't want to talk to one, hang up. They don't want to talk to you either. But a lot of the time it's that or welfare.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

+1 for hanging up on telemarketers!

11 years ago | Likes 351 Dislikes 43

+1 for hanging up telemarketers!

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 5

As a former telemarketer, PLEASE DO just hang up. Much of the time, we're not allowed to be the one to end the call.

11 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 4

I always say "I'm sorry, but please take this number off your list, and do not contact me again." And then I hang up.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

As soon as I realize it's a telemarketer, I tell them to take me off their call list and they do. It works! They won't call back! 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I'm down to maaaaaybe one call a month and never from the same company.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I wish that worked for me. I get at least one call every week trying to sell me a cruise or car warranty and I always tell them do not call.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I just hang up. I get it - you're doing your job. I hate that you call me, but I don't hate you, just your company.

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

Just doing job, but not completely innocent. Still doing that job.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

From all these comments on this post and the other post, I'm genuinely surprised that almost nobody understand how to do this.

11 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

I once had a telemarketer call me back and chew me out for being so rude.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Almost all modern landline phones and smart phones have a button called "end call".

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

as a telemarketer, id rather you hang up on me than harass me.

again, just hang up or ask for the DNC

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

You are free to find another job that doesn't harass people selling shit they don't want though. Don't complain when people react poorly.

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 11

Some people do want it though or the job wouldnt exist. dont want it, hang up. simple stuff.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As a sorta-telemarketer, just tell me that you aren't interested and I will never call you again. I promise. Please don't be mean.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just out of curiosity though, do you actually believe in the product you ate selling? And do you use it with enthusiasm? 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 10

If so, sell the shit out of me. If not, fuck right off. If you took a job selling a crap product, then the harassment is part of the job

11 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 10

I insta hangup I didn't know peopleactually stay on the line

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nah, I'm gonna harass you for supporting a parasitic and intrusive industry that has no regards for regulations against it.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

what do you mean harras

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don't do a job where you are calling people when it is not wanted, that is harassment. Some people are too nice to hang up.

11 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 13

Not everyone has a choice, some people have to take whatever job they can get

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

So? If you're doing a job where you have to be shitty to people don't be suprised when they're shitty to you.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 8

the thing I don't understand is, sometimes, if you hang up on a telemarketer it seems like they are more likely to call back...

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

thats because you are marked as "hang up". from mgmt standpoint, "you cant be not interested in something you dont know about"

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

then you get marked as "not interested" and less likely to be called back. atleast thats how it works where i work.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

and honestly thats why its best to just listen to what they have to say (if theyre legit) and if you really listen and decide its not 4 u

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

How about the how long can I keep the telemarketer on the phone without spending any money or committing to anything game?

11 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 13

They have to make a living, if you aren't interested, just hang up. There are people who will be. They're just trying to live

11 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 2

thats kind of harassment. listening to what they got to offer and saying no is one thing but that is different.

You don't have to fucking respect it. I don't respect people who are shitty to others for just trying to make a living.

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

of course you dont know me, i pay you to suck my dick, not know who i am. and i cant have respect for someone who uses as much teeth as you

11 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 16

I work an inbound call center & people are still jerks. I don't ask them to call me yet they are rude. I have a feeling you're one of "them"

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

That's not how harassment works, at all. You can't call people out of the blue and then claim *you're* being harassed, even if its your job

11 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 12

line. look at the other comments here to gfind more info on the DNC

11 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 6

what that guy did was harassment. if you feel you are being harassed by a company, keep in mind, its just someone who works there on the

11 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 5

"Hello, I have marketing for you" "No, I'm going to bed" "No, marketing though" "Ok, let's go" ...was how I saw it.

11 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 4

This. Original OP tried to politely decline, telemarketer pressed on anyway. That is inconsiderate and presumes the telemarketer's time 1/

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That is also how I saw it.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

2/ is more valuable than that of the person being called. But please, let's have a fucking pity party for the shitty telemarketer.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

you know the best part about caller ID is not answering when its not a number you know, voice mail is awesome you can check it afterward

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

I keep being harassed by "Rachel from Card Services," who keeps trying to steal my credit card info. I say fuck with them however you can.

11 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 7

sure, THOSE guys but were not all bad.

11 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 5

I always try to calmly request DNC *the first time* company X calls me. If they ignore me I get progressively uncalm.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

"Rachel" is a con.. Jason is a poor sap stuck in a shit job. There is a difference.

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

there is a difference between a scammer and a telemarketer. why is this rocket science to so many people?

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

"Just doing his job" is not an excuse. So are paparazzi and they are still assholes. If you call me and i tell you not to bother me 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 12

2/2 and you still insist you are the asshole

11 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 7

I don't disagree but he could've just hung up instead of making that dudes day miserable.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

He might put him on the do not call list. If he does then that's mission accomplished.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I'd put him on the call daily list.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

If I know anything about the hiring practices of those places you would then be fired for wasting not only your own time but that of others.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

and people wonder why many view telemarketing as harassing people... gee I wonder

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Yeah I'm with OP on this one. Fuck that other guy, hope Jason is an imgurian and posts his side.

11 years ago | Likes 1676 Dislikes 100

No kidding "I told him I needed to sleep, but he insisted I stay on the line"... then I refused to hang up. Makes a whole lot of sense

11 years ago | Likes 98 Dislikes 7

Having managed telemarketers they usually tell you to stay on the phone until they hang up or demand to be put on the dnc.

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I would have just slept instead.

11 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

The other guy already made himself look awful. Don't even need Jason's side.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same here, people need a job, no need to make them feel shit about it

11 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 6

Gonna need some context

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I agree, but as a Jason who works the midnight shift, when someone tries to end the call, fucking let them.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

That gives me an idea...

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

I always thought that imgur is a nice community but sometimes ppl are just stupid and upvote total assholes. I just don't get it.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 6

If you think imgur is a nice community I've got some bad news for you man.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

He wouldn't let him sleep after told he wasn't interested. Jason deserved it

11 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 26

The telemarketer have him a time to hang up by putting him on hold. Even told him to hang up....

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I'm not sure he understood that phones have an "end call" function. He should learn more about how to use that.

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

On modern phones there is a "end call" button designed to end the call, older phones allow you to "hang up" the phone as well.

11 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

I mean, you can't say that Jason forced him to stay up. Unless the OP has never hung up a phone before.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Reminder : "I work graveyard and need to sleep" => "IDGAF, I still try to force my shit on you". who is the asshole ?

11 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 32

The person who doesn't sleep but spend time harassing. Tm put him on hold so he could hang up and go to bed

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Really? Can someone be forced to sell something to you when you know your phone has a "end call" button? Answer: they can't, it's not forced

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

it's 2015, put your phone on DND and let saved numbers break through. that guy has a script he has to push for min wage, it ain't personal.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

"I need sleep so bad that I will spend the next ~30 minutes fucking with you." Bullshit.

11 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 3

When you're POed by someone, you won't be able to sleep for at least that much, anyway. Might as well not be the only one wasting his time

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 18

If you're so POd by a fucking phone call you could just hang up and be done with it that you cant sleep for 30 minutes you have some issues.

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

If you're not POed when a tm who rudely INSIST after you politely refuse his spam because you're tired, you're the fucking buddha

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 6

I say, Sorry not interested and hang up.

11 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 4

It's not difficult is it?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's what you should do, just saying "No thanks" and just sitting there like a lemon is pointless.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

idk, I've had telemarketers argue with me to try and get me to not hang up. If I tell them I'm not interested and they keep pushing, fuck em

11 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 5

They have 0 control over you hanging up. just "no thanks" and then hang up. Their words do not ensnare your hand from the end button.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I've had pushy telemarketers argue stupid points to try and piss me off just to get me to stay on the line. Be shitty, get shit.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

So you felt compelled to answer? Still on you. You can easily ignore their points and hang up.

You responded to this message, you didn't have to, but I said something you disagree with and you kept going. It's pretty simple huh?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wat? I responded because I want to, the moment I think its annoying or not worth my time, Ill stop replying. See?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Um is that "sauce" link a joke or is it broken?

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thought it was just me.... I'm very confused as to what is going on.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Are you browsing random? Because I made that comment 9 months ago lol

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yay for random! :)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And yes, I tend to forget that the posts are old, sorry.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

its fine. Have a nice day :)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you, you too!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I feel like every minute I spend wasting a telemarketer's time is minute they can't spend tricking someone's confused grandma out of money.

11 years ago | Likes 140 Dislikes 63

Every minute you keep em on the line, they dont have to call someone else and get even lower self-esteem by being denied. Imagine if your1/2

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

job is to be denied 99% of the time, imagine the effect that has on your psyche. It breaks you.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

And another minute they can't earn money to keep their confused grandma out of a home (or child eating, or paying their rent)

11 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 3

Or, bear with me here, the institution is to blame and your theory is like blaming the blood vomit when you have stomach cancer.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Not everything is a scam. I used to call people who were behind on their mortgages to warn them of foreclosure.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

not all telemarketers are scammers. the ppl i work with (including myself) are held up to a higher standard.

11 years ago | Likes 83 Dislikes 36

Not everyone is held up to a higher standard, and you cant know if they are when they call you.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Telemarketers called my landline at dinner time every day for 2 years. Wasn't until I threatened harassment charges did it stop

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I applaud the douche that did this. I guarantee they won't call again. P.s. my telemarketer was Steve. Same dude every day

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Not all are scammers, but all are spammers. Paid to waste someone's time and trying to get money.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You took a job that involves harassing people who don't want to hear from you. Don't tell me about high standards.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Mind clue ing us in on what your monotonous job exactly is?

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 6

im a telemarketer

11 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 14

Your job is to harass and badger people.... take a moral stand and quit or stfu about someone being rude to a telemarketer

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Thats reaally not the job of a telemarketer, its jsut that some companies force their employees/some are just too dumb. Really.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah no, I figured that much. I was curious about the part where you're saying it's not what everyone thinks it is. I'd like to get to know.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So, is that what you wanted out of life?

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 15

I used to work at a market research company basically getting people to do surveys. It's a job and a way to make money. Not a career.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Yes because everybody in the world has their dream job

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

what do you do? is THAT what yo uwanted out of life?

11 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 7

If I wanted to talk to you, I would call you.

11 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 11

when reps call you, they typically have options not available through customer service. its the whole reason (typically) they call you

11 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 12

Whoopty-doo

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

well, sometimes it can mean huge discounts.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Would you insist on continuing a call when a person says they work third shift and you woke them up like the other telemarketer did?

11 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 9

no i would have asked what time would be better to call back when theyre awake, however his company might not have allowed that.

11 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 11

he obviously couldnt hang up the phone, which is why the abuse that happened in the post i mention happened. thats what it is. abuse.

11 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 14

Thank you! People have no empathy, not even enough to get their facts straight before they start justifying shitty behavior.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 4

Behavior such as being a telemarketer?

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 4

How do I get a job as a telemarketer? D: I need money.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

do you have your own computer, headset, internet and quiet space in your home?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Yes. except no headset.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

got $35?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Like any other job, you apply. It's not the right kind of work for everyone but they tend to give almost anyone a chance at it.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Callcenter jobs are everywhere. Just make sure you get one with a decent base pay AND commission, not just commission.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Hmm thanks for the advice. I'd like to look into it though. :o

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Personally I HATED it, but it kind of depends on what sort of callcenter it is. People had to call me to return "risk free trials" of a 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

And there was a fair amount of scamming grandmas since it was a wrinkle cream. I know some people that made tons of money doing it but ugh.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

a lot of it was talking to idiots trying to figure out why we charged them "WHAT DO YOU MEAN RISK FREE DOESN'T MEAN FREE?!" ugh

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

facial cream and I had to try to talk them into keeping it and ordering more. You got charged if you kept it after 30 days though and so 2/

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

To be fair, their job is harassing other people.

11 years ago | Likes 115 Dislikes 75

I agree, unpopular as it is, but it's not their fault. Desperate people will take any job they can and fucking with them doesn't make it-

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 5

okay; the companies doing it should be the ones accountable. Unfortunately we can't fuck with them directly, so those of us annoyed by it-

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

find satisfaction in tales of retribution & pranks. That's just how it is, no right or wrong.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

To be fair, the blowjob and cocaine factory wasn't hiring.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've found only rude people get 'harassed' by telemarketers. If you simply say "not interested, take me off your list" they have to do it >

11 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 7

They don't, and in my experience, they never do until you get yourself put on the national blacklist then threaten legal action.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

I put my number on a "do not call" list. I've never been contacted by telemarketers. Never.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

And even then, they keep doing it, only hiding identifying information to a point to make taking legal action harder.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

< but if you are rude as shit to them, scream, whistle, rant, etc., diallers will purposefully code you to be called back in 10 if they are>

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 4

I own a business if your nice and ask them to take you off they call anyways. U fuck with them blow whistles in their ear they stop calling

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Spiteful.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

No it's not.

11 years ago | Likes 61 Dislikes 37

You're harassing the guy by publicly shaming him because he got fed up with the bullshit of "your kind" calling him at home.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

publically shaming the guy who publically bragged about harassing a telemarketer who, after reading the post, did what he could to end call

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

the fuck its not

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

Telemarketers are like pop-up ads with sound. Nothing personal, but I feel harassed when called by one.

11 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 2

So hang up

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 9

Ten times a day. Easy! It's not like you have your own things to do today or anything.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

you get calls ten times a day? ive never heard of such a thing. Tell them to take you off their list

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Their job is to do something, the dirrect side effect is that they are harassing other people

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Look, I empathize that you're desperate for money. But mugging people is still frowned upon. So is this. Don't tell us not to feel harassed.

11 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 3

Yes. It really is. If someone says "I've gotta go sleep" and they're like "No It will just be a minute" that is harassment.

11 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 8

No one is forcing you to stay on the phone! Say "remove me from your call list" and hang up. Easy. Telemarketers are annoying but that's it

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

Ahh yes, but the telemarketing calls I get call multiple times weekly no matter how much I ask to be removed from the list.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

And next week you get a call from the same person representing a different company.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

no, its someone trying to do their job and then upon finding out he wasnt receptive, tried to end the call.

11 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 18

Well according to the story the guy didn't find out and stop, the guy said he had to sleep and the marketer kept going.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

after the guy told him it was ok to continue

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

He hung up in the end, meaning he could've done it the whole time and chose not to.'

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 5

He hung up blatantly saying he didn't care if he got in trouble "I don't care if this is recorded or not", some companies reprimand them 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

not sayin i hang up on ppl for sihts n giggles, but if i had this call, i would have disconnected it or just set a call back for when hes up

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

no, i am a rep who can hang up, and as someone who does it, he wouldve hung up a long time ago.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Their job is to sell something.

11 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 7

Their job is to sell something by harassing people. It's not like the two are mutually exclusive.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

95% of the telemarketers who call use deceptive methods to keep me from hanging up immediately.Act like they rep my car's manufacturer, etc.

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

That's illegal and you should look into taking legal action against them. It'll be a good way to make some extra money...sue 'em.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

those are rarely marketers, and are actually scammers. totally different group. one scams for card info, one actually sells things.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

In the same way that a burglar's job is to acquire and resell used goods. Harassing people isn't the goal, merely the method.

11 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 8

Burglary is not a job.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

It is a job. It's not a legal job and certainly not a moral job, but there are people that make a career out of it.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I prefer Spammer as an example, but I agree with this.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Found the telemarketer.

11 years ago | Likes 162 Dislikes 80

yes

11 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 16

4 year vet. No stories. I work 5 days, 40 hours a week, take home $70k a year and feel like my job is boring.

11 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 5

That's blood money

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

It is literally blood money. Literally. Not figuratively.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 5

Story time?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I sell cord blood

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

$70k a year doing telemarketing? Wow!

11 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

3 yr vet. i got stories....

11 years ago | Likes 63 Dislikes 16

Nobody's forcing you to do it. Or get offended when they attack your profession. Or shame people. Don't waste their time at home.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 8

Is one of those stories "A client once requested to never be called again and I ignored him"? Because that's how it usually goes for me.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Do any of them involve trying to keep someone on the line after they tell you it's the middle of their night? I hate hanging up on people.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Post them!!!!!

11 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 10

... idk, theres some fucked up ones, some asshole one and a lot of stupid ones. idk if it is really wanted round here lol

11 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 6

Schadenfreude. Everyone loves Schadenfreude.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As long as you don't first make a post asking if they want stories before actually posting stories.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

i made a comment. look for it. depending on how the comment iself (not a whole other post), ill make it.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

i made a comment. look for it. depending on how the comment iself (not a whole other post), ill make it.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Nah, I'm with OG OP here. He stated to Jason he wasn't interested, had just come back from work and wanted to sleep. Fuck Jason.

11 years ago | Likes 60 Dislikes 49

Jason wouldve been reprimanded and couldve possibly lost his job if he hung up. But yeah, fuck Jason. He probably doesnt have bills to pay

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Jason should've stepped up to his super and said he hung up because the client became hostile, super could've listened to recording.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fear for losing your job most of the times trumps logic.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thing is, after the douchebag tried to trigger some existential crisis in Jason, he was given an chance to hang up. But that wasn't enough.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Why didn't he just hang up after saying that then? Having worked 3rd when you're tired you sleep... You don't harass someone doing their job

11 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

Some people are just pretty vindictive.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

In this situation vindictive=douche. There's that whole golden rule thing

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Well, in that case, telemarketer got exactly what he deserved :-p "One should treat others as one would like others to treat oneself"

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

so carrying on after being told to? Op "no I'm not interested" TM"are you sure its not like you think" (standard response)OP "go ahead then"

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So hang up. If you're pissed at having your time wasted, why waste more of it? Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Sometimes you're just in a foul mood. I've been there. I'm not saying what OG OP did was 'good', but I might very well have done the same.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

he gave one rebuttl and then the guy said he could continue with the call

11 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 4

if he wouldve said no again, he might have been able to end the call

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

Yup, can confirm. Two or 3 rebuttals are usually the norm in any decent callcenter

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

With a pineapple.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You, I like you, we think alike.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Unfortunately many telemarketers have a policy in place where they can't be the one that hangs up. Managers probably there as well.

11 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 3

Yeah, I really don't get that, you seriously bug people and nobody is happy in the end!

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 8

But from the original post, it sounds like the guy kept pushing it on him even though he said he wanted to go to bed.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 11

Yea, unfortunately the OP of the other post wasn't smart enough to understand that if you hang up, they go away.

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

But he didn't hang up and continued to harass the guy, so clearly he didn't really want to go to bed. Just fuck with someone trying to work.

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

That's what they're trained/told to do. Keep pushing until they sign up or hang up. My mom was a telemarketer years ago. That's what they do

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

From what I understood our was an "no" "are you sure?" Jackass mode engaged

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

Becauae thats his job and if he didn't he could get fired. The guy he could could literally just hand up and be done.

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Well, that's how he tells it. It doesn't gel with how telemarketers are actually trained, but hey, why would he lie, right?

11 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 4

I've had my own runins with telemarketers. You can tell 'em you're not interested and they'll still keep on going.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

This a million times! I have told so many telemarketers that I am not interested and remove me from the calling list and it NEVER works!

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Because their job description forbids them from hanging up. They have to keep going until YOU hang up. Which is why I say no, then hang up.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Yes, but I don't get the COMPANY behind the telemarketers. They do their job, but the guy that made that policy is just evil.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Someone, somewhere, realised they made X% more sales if they didn't let their staff give up on a sale. And thus, policy happened.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That's part of their job. Sometimes they aren't allowed to stop until you hang up. So it's best to just hang up instead of harrass people.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Yes, but I don't get the COMPANY behind the telemarketers. They do their job, but the guy that made that policy is just evil.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

As long as you have a politician or two in your pocket, you can get away with just about anything. Gotta love when democracy is for sale.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

because being on that list doesn't stop them anymore. Everyone thinks telemarketing is shitty, but again, democracy for sale. 2/2

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I mean, there used to be a national do not call list. It worked, no telemarketers called you, but I think they revoked those laws now 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Sure, but that applies to so many industries. They're just evil, but they continue doing it. Like predatory lending, comcast, etc

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Don't go comparing Janitors with telemarketers. They may both be shit jobs, but at least one of them serves a purpose.

11 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 20

The telemarketing/call centre market is one of the biggest growing markets in the world and provide millions of jobs, boosting economies

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

He was quoting, not comparing.

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

We could argue the semantics of that until the end of the Internet. Let's just agree to love boobies instead.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

But they're both made of just normal people doing their jobs.If you don't like telemarketers,go after the companies who employ such policies

11 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 9

I'm not going after anyone. I'm saying not to compare custodians to telemarketers.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Fair enough

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

People use the line "I was just doing my job" to justify all sorts of immoral and unethical behavior. It's a weak excuse, and I don't buy it

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

what tripe! most cold calling companies are just small businesses desperate to find clients/customers and his hardly immoral

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

They're desperate because they're scummy shitbags who harass people into buying their products. Let the fail, they deserve it.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Sure, but lets be honest, this is a legal job, it's not going away, and he's not killing children, kittens and puppies.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Lets be honest, they harass people for a living and it's cunty. The legality of being an asshole for a living is irrelevant.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

And it's not going away or going to stop if people keep harassing the folks who work there. Go after the industry if you don't like it.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

I'd love to. In the meantime, I'm not letting these jerks hide behind the excuse that The Company Made Me Do It.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

What if it was between starving or doing a shitty job. You sound like an entitled prick

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

They've chosen to prey on people in order to survive. It's understandable but not admirable. It needs to BE a shitty job so they quit later.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

When your choices are starve, or work in a shitty, but legal job, I'd assume the choice is obvious. If you give them a better job, 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm sure they'd be more than happy to take it.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2) Unfortunately, I can't give them a decent job. Our society has a surplus of labor, and our current system is not equipped to deal with

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

3) it. I'm interested in the concept of "basic income" as a potential solution, but we need -a- solution soon, as the job crisis gets worse.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In the US, we used to have that. Minimum wage meant, livable wage. Now it doesn't and taxpayers have to support people working fulltime jobs

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

1) I agree that it's better than dying. But it is a shitty thing to do, so I don't want them to feel satisfied in their current position.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I'm doubt many of them are satisfied with their jobs. They'd probably take the first decent job they're offered at the same or better pay.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0
